90° Elbow with External Thread IVAR.IVN431 – Stainless Steel AISI 304, 18 mm x R1/2"
Code: IVN431.1812Product detailed description
The elbow IVAR.IVN431 – 18 mm x R1/2" from the IVAR system made of stainless steel AISI 304 (1.4301) has a crimping collar with an EPDM O-ring for a 18 mm tube on one side, and an external thread R1/2" on the other. It connects a pipe to a heating valve or fitting with an internal thread and simultaneously changes the direction by 90°. It can withstand a pressure up to PN 16 and a temperature range of -20 °C to +120 °C.
Application
Closed heating and cooling circuits, solar systems, compressed air and vacuum lines, inert and technical gases, technical and operational liquids, industrial applications, waste and rainwater. The fitting is not suitable for potable water – this is also indicated by a symbol on its body.
Installation
Cut the tube perpendicularly to the axis with a cutter or fine-toothed file (not with a grinding wheel or flame), deburr it from inside and outside, and insert it into the collar until it stops; mark the insertion depth with a marker. Seal the thread with a material free of chlorides, e.g., Teflon tape or hemp with a chloride-free paste. Use pliers with an M-profile for crimping, for the 18 mm size use individual pliers. The joint is crimped only once – repeated crimping may damage the seal.
The orange stripe tears during crimping, so you can easily recognize an uncrimped joint at a glance. In addition, the LBP (Leak Before Press) O-ring will leak during a pressure test if the joint is not crimped.
Before commissioning, flush the entire circuit and follow the manufacturer's installation instructions. If the valve has an external thread, use type IVAR.IVN430 with an internal thread Rp1/2".

Frequently asked questions
What is the IVAR.IVN431 18 mm x R1/2" elbow used for?
It connects a stainless steel crimped pipe of 18 mm to a heating valve or fitting with an internal 1/2" thread and simultaneously changes the direction of the route by 90°.
What should be used to seal the R1/2" thread on the stainless steel elbow?
The installation instructions recommend sealing materials free of chlorides – Teflon tape without chlorides, hemp with sealing paste without chlorides, or sealing tape without chlorides. Chlorides increase the risk of corrosion of stainless steel.
Can the IVAR.IVN431 fitting be used for potable water?
No. The stainless steel system AISI 304 is not intended for potable water by the manufacturer, which is also indicated by a symbol on the fitting body. It is intended for heating, cooling, solar systems, and technical media distribution.
What crimping pliers do I need for the 18 mm size?
Pliers with an M-profile. For diameters from 15 to 35 mm, individual pliers are used according to the manufacturer's instructions.

IVAR designs, develops and manufactures highly energy-efficient heating and plumbing systems. We have over 10,000 catalogue items - mass-produced products and unique items - in addition to customised systems and combinations of complex products. And it’s all “Made in Italy”.
Vision
To make life easier for our clients, our clients' customers and our employees, thanks to our ability to be constantly innovative.
Mission
To design and manufacture advanced hydronic solutions that reduce installation complexity and energy consumption.
“Made in Italy” adds value
IVAR has been producing heating and plumbing system components since 1985: valves for heating bodies, direct heat metering modules, heat cost allocators, pipes and fittings, substations for heating systems, distribution manifolds, radiant panel systems, and components for solar and geothermal systems. And it’s all “Made in Italy”.
Over 200 people are employed at our manufacturing facilities in Prevalle (in northern Italy’s Brescia province). The site has been designed to streamline our many production and operational stages.
The Italian headquarters also acts as a hub for the wider IVAR Group, set up with the goal of distributing products beyond Italy’s borders. The group now has 11 branches, in Australia, Belgium, China, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, the United States and Tunisia.
Know How
Research, development and numerous laboratory tests guarantee that our clients’ requests can be translated into new high-efficiency products.
The stages required for production take place internally, beginning with hot forming, which is carried out at our subsidiary Valmon Stampati. Our continuous implementation of projects under the Industry 4.0 initiative also allows us to take full advantage of new releases in technology and IT to improve our manufacturing efficiency.
As a company, IVAR is constantly evolving. Every day, we invest in strengthening our products, in improving our production processes and in attaining new patents and certifications.
