Frequently asked questions
- How do I choose the right output for a bathroom ladder radiator? As a rough guide, allow approx. 100 W per m² of bathroom floor area at a standard ceiling height and insulation level; if the radiator is the only heat source in the room, choose the higher end of this range.
- What is the difference between a water, electric and combined (dual) radiator? A water (hydronic) radiator is connected to the house's heating system (boiler) and only works while the heating is running; an electric radiator has its own heating element/element rod and works independently of the heating (useful e.g. outside the heating season); a combined (dual) radiator allows both - in winter it is heated by the boiler, in summer or outside the season it runs independently on electricity.
- Do I also need a thermostat for an electric radiator? A thermostat is not always included with the heating element/rod - if it isn't, we recommend buying one separately, as it lets you regulate the temperature and save electricity instead of always running at full power.
- Must installation be carried out by a professional? Hanging the radiator on the wall can be done by a competent DIYer; connecting it to the water heating circuit (for water and combined models) should be left to a heating engineer/plumber.

I don't really understand how these work, can I just plug this radiator into the wall like a normal heater, or do I need the pipe stuff too? I want it just for my bathroom to dry towels and don't have anyone to connect it to my boiler.

This radiator on its own doesn't come with the electric part, so you can't just plug it in straight away - you'd need to buy a heating element separately and have it fitted into the bottom socket. If you don't want to deal with pipes and a boiler at all, that's actually the easiest way to go, plenty of our customers do exactly that for bathrooms. Just let us know the size of the radiator and we can help you pick the right power for the heating element.
