How exactly does an oil heater work – basic physics

The first and most fundamental question customers ask is: why "oil"? And what does that oil actually do? An oil heater is an electric appliance whose body is hermetically sealed and filled with a special dielectric (thermally conductive) mineral oil. From a physical perspective, therefore, an oil radiator is neither "expensive" nor "cheap" compared to other electric heating of the same power. Can I use the oil radiator to dry clothes?

Short answer: no. Longer answer: in principle, no, and here is the reason. Hanging clothes over the fins (which people often do) harms the radiator in several ways: first, the clothes cover the surface of the fins and prevent natural convection, causing the fins to overheat and the thermal protection to possibly trigger an emergency shutdown. Second, moisture from the clothes reaches the area of the electrical components and can cause corrosive damage. Third, long-term localized concentration of heat can damage the body's lacquer.
