Thermia MEGA S-E is an inverter heat pump ground/water from the IVAR.HP MEGA range designed for larger buildings and commercial use. The compressor with a frequency inverter continuously adjusts the output in the range of 10–33 kW (B0/W35) according to the current heat demand, which is why the unit is designed to cover 100% of the annual heat demand. The water temperature at the output reaches up to 65 °C, so it can be used in new buildings as well as during reconstruction.

Version S-E

Compared to MEGA S, version S-E has a built-in switching valve for heating/hot water and an auxiliary electric heater with three levels of 5/10/15 kW. A hot water connection Cu 35 mm has been added, the other connections correspond to MEGA S.

Technology and efficiency

Quiet Danfoss scroll compressor with speed inverter, electronic expansion valve, stainless steel plate heat exchangers and circulation pumps in energy class A; special construction with rubber compensators limits vibrations. Refrigerant R410A, charge 3.9 kg. At B0/W35 it delivers 20.18 kW with COP 4.73, seasonal SCOP is 5.72 (35 °C) and 4.33 (55 °C) according to EN 14825 for cold climate, energy class A+++. Sound power level 41–56 dB(A).

Installation

The unit with dimensions 692 × 796 × 1652 mm (w × h × d, without connecting nozzles) and weight 309 kg is installed horizontally on a concrete floor at least 100 mm thick, away from the corner of the room and walls adjacent to areas sensitive to noise. Connections: antifreeze liquid 42 mm, heating system 35 mm, superheated steam circuit 28 mm. A filter with max. 0.7 mm mesh is required in the return of the system and in the supply of the antifreeze liquid, and flexible hoses are recommended for connection. Power supply 400 V 3N~, circuit breaker 32/40/50 A, maximum pressure of both circuits 6 bar.

Warning: The design uses the calculation software HPC 2. Installation, electrical connection and commissioning must be performed by an authorized specialist.

Frequently asked questions

Is the connecting equipment part of the delivery?
No. The package includes the heat pump, documentation, a set of sound-dampening plates and a set of sensors (external sensor and pipe supply sensor). The connecting equipment IVAR.TER-PS is ordered separately – for this model it has the code IHP08645680. For MEGA S-E, the hot water connection Cu 35 mm must be connected separately.

Can MEGA be used with a water/water source?
Yes, but with the water/water version it is necessary to design a custom intermediate heat exchanger and use a flow sensor. The immersion pump of the source can be controlled by a 0–10 V signal according to the temperature difference on the intermediate heat exchanger with an additional card EM3.

Which antifreeze liquid is used in the primary circuit?
The manufacturer specifies an ethanol and water solution with a freezing point of −17 °C (±2 °C). Before use, it is necessary to verify local regulations; the maximum working pressure of the antifreeze liquid circuit is 6 bar.
