The PNI Safe House 400 is a kit of a gas detector and a solenoid valve that raises an alarm and shuts off the gas supply when a leak occurs. The pack contains two such kits, so you can cover, for example, a kitchen and a boiler room or two apartments.
The detector with a semiconductor sensor responds to natural gas (methane), LPG (propane-butane) and coal gas. The alarm is triggered at just 10% of the lower explosive limit: a continuous siren with a volume of at least 85 dB sounds and a red LED flashes. According to the manufacturer, the sensor has a service life of up to 5 years.
At the same time, the detector sends a 9–12 V pulse to a valve with a 3/4" internal thread, which shuts off the gas supply in less than 1 second. The valve body is made of aluminium alloy. The detector is powered by 100–240 V AC and its power consumption is less than 3 W. It does not detect carbon monoxide (CO).
Installation and compatibility
Natural gas is lighter than air, so the detector is placed about 30 cm below the ceiling and 1.5 m from the gas source. LPG is heavier and sinks towards the floor, so the detector is placed about 30 cm above the floor, also 1.5 m from the source. Do not install it in a place with a large amount of water vapour, as it may cause false alarms. After switching on, the sensor warms up for about 180 seconds.
The detector measures 72 × 115 × 35 mm and the valve 75 × 45 × 110 mm. The valve works at pressures up to 100 kPa and in a temperature range of −26 to +80 °C; the cable to the detector is 90 cm long. Installing the valve on the gas pipe must be carried out by a qualified person with the professional competence for gas installations.
