When you want to connect two photovoltaic panels in parallel, you need a connector with two inputs and one output. That is exactly what this set of PNI MC4 Y branch connectors provides. It consists of a double T-branch and a classic MC4 connector, and is part of the standard equipment for professional parallel connection of panels.

The MC4 designation stands for a multi-contact connector with a 4 mm pin. The connectors come in two variants, positive and negative, commonly referred to as female and male. For this reason a pair is used for a parallel connection, as shown in the photos.

Use and compatibility

The connectors are intended for solar cables with a cross-section of 4–6 mm². The current may be at most 30 A (depending on the cable type and the ambient temperature according to IEC 60364-5-523), and the system voltage up to 1000 V. They have IP67 protection and protection class II, and the operating temperature range is −40 to +90 °C. The snap-in system ensures a reliable connection.

In a parallel connection the panel voltages do not add up, but the currents do, so check that the sum of the currents does not exceed 30 A.
