The PNI GreenHouse H01 is a small solar power system that works straight out of the box. The panel charges the battery inside the portable unit, which in turn powers two LED bulbs, a mobile phone via USB or small 12 V devices. It is a good fit for camping, a motorhome, a weekend cottage or garden hut, or as an emergency light during a power cut.

The unit has two USB outlets for charging phones and three 12 V outlets. It also comes with an FM radio that picks up more than 20 stations and a player for MP3 files on a USB stick or SD card. The manufacturer states that a fully charged battery will keep two 3 W bulbs lit for up to 12 hours.

Inside the box you will find the unit with its battery, the solar panel with a 6-metre cable, two LED bulbs with cable and switch, plus the necessary connections. The panel can be set down in a sunny spot away from the place you want to light.

How long does charging take?

In strong sunshine the battery takes at least 7 hours to charge. When it is cloudy the panel's charging output drops, so allow for that when planning. The panel is rated at 10 W and measures 360 × 240 mm.

What you can connect

The two LED bulbs come in the box. Other small 12 V appliances can be plugged into the three outlets, which together supply no more than 3 A (30 W). A phone or other USB device charges from the two USB outlets at 1 A.

Does the system work without sunshine?
Yes, for as long as the battery is charged. After that it has to be recharged from the panel, which takes longer under an overcast sky.
