Frequently asked questions
- What tank volume should I choose? A common consumption estimate is around 40-50 litres of hot water (at approx. 40-45 °C) per person per day for standard use (showering, washing); if bathing in a tub or with more bathrooms/draw-off points, plan for a larger volume. When choosing, also consider whether the tank will be heated by a high-output boiler (faster heating, a smaller volume may be enough) or, for example, only by a solar system (where a larger volume is worthwhile for storing heat accumulated during the day).
- Can I connect this TATRAMAT tank to my existing boiler? In most cases yes, but you should verify the compatibility of the hydraulic connection (dimensions and type of fittings) and whether your boiler supports control of the tank's heating (a temperature sensor in the tank and possibly a switching valve are required) - you'll find these details in the product's technical parameters, or our customer service can advise you.
- Where and how is the tank installed? The tank should be placed as close as possible to the heat source (boiler) to minimise heat losses in the connecting pipework, while still leaving enough space around it for service access (anode replacement, safety valve inspection).
- Does installation have to be done by a professional? We always recommend leaving the hydraulic connection to the water supply and heat source, including fitting a safety valve set to the correct pressure, to a qualified heating engineer/plumber - an incorrectly fitted or missing safety valve is a safety hazard.

Company history
1845
The history of Tatramat begins to be written. The owner of a shop in the village of Matejovce in the Podtatranská region, Carl August Scholtz, founded a machine workshop. At first, he produced nails and plows for cattle and horses, which were then imported from other countries. The son of C.A. Scholtz, Jan Emil Scholtz, joined the workshop and expanded the production to include tin-plated and zinc-plated goods, mainly for household use and other sheet metal products.
1914 - 1945
The range of products was adapted to military production. Military cups, milk cans, hand grenades, field flasks, military helmets and military plows for horses were produced, later the production of kitchen stoves for field kitchens, potato steamers, zinc-plated barrels and enameled containers began. After overcoming the economic crisis in 1940, the situation stabilized and the factory experienced further development. On October 27, 1945, the factory was nationalized by a decree of President Eduard Beneš. In 1946, an independent company called Spojené smaltovne, n.p., was established with its headquarters in Matejovce. The main focus of production became zinc-plated and painted 200-liter barrels, asphalt drums, enameled containers, and later aluminum tableware.
1950
1992
Comprehensive technological and product innovation of water heaters. The most modern welding, enameling and firing technologies were introduced, and the transition to non-chlorofluorocarbon polyurethane insulation - new generation water heaters of type EO were introduced. New types of 10, 30, 50 l water heaters and a 120 l gas water heater were introduced into production. The company expanded its extensive export activities to the markets of the European Union, the Czech Republic, Russia, Poland, Hungary, Ukraine and the Baltic states. The joint-stock company TATRAMAT was certified according to the EN ISO 9001 standards by the German company RW TÜV. The production of polystyrene moldings for packaging in the consumer and food industries was introduced. The production of sheet metal and plastic parts for consumer goods was expanded. The production of cable (conductor) bundles usable in the automotive and consumer industries began. Water heaters with indirect heating were included in the production program, the production of new types of gas water heaters was expanded, and the range also included small-volume and solar water heaters.
2004
2004 - 2019
Due to the most modern trends, the development of water heaters is strengthened, a new development center focused on heat pumps is opened. The company is restructuring and modernizing its machine park. A new laboratory for testing finished products, a production hall for heat pumps and a new production line for water heaters are created. Thanks to EU funds, the enameling process is modernized, the workstations for 100% product leak testing are created and the kiln for enameling is completely renovated. Production capacities are expanded by opening a new tool workshop for mold production.
