DAB 6GF 5.5 kW (code I0607500) is a 6" submersible three-phase asynchronous motor with two poles, which drives the hydraulic unit of a submersible pump in a borehole or well. It is designed for direct starting at 3 × 400 V and is suitable for 6" and 8" submersible pumps with a flange and NEMA connection – for example, for hydraulic parts of DAB SS6; for 10" pumps after verifying the flange dimensions.

Construction

The motor housing is made of stainless steel, all metal parts in contact with water are made of stainless steel or cast iron. The stator is enclosed in a hermetically sealed stainless steel casing, the rotor runs in a filling of demineralized water with a non-freezing lubricating mixture (water and polypropylene glycol), so the pumped water is not contaminated. Large axial forces are absorbed by a robust axial bearing of the Kingsbury type – at this power up to 16,000 N. The motor has a removable power cable with a replaceable connector, IP68 protection and insulation class F.

Operating conditions

• water temperature 0 to +35 °C with flow around the motor of at least 0.3 m/s, otherwise a cooling jacket is required
• vertical and horizontal mounting (horizontally, if the pump's axial pull does not drop below 250 N)
• maximum submersion depth 300 m, maximum 20 direct starts per hour
• possibility of power supply via a frequency converter 30 – 50/60 Hz with a 10 % power reduction
• the power of the connected pump must not exceed the motor power

Protection of the motor against overload and short circuit is ensured by the user using an appropriate electrical panel; the power supply must also have a 30 mA residual current device. Installation and connection must be carried out by a qualified person. The motor does not require regular maintenance.

With 6" and 8" submersible pumps with a flange and NEMA coupling, for example with hydraulic parts of DAB SS6. The pump power must not exceed 5.5 kW.

What cross-section of the power cable should be selected?
According to the instructions for direct starting at 380 – 400 V and 4 % voltage drop: 4 mm² up to 174 m, 6 mm² up to 259 m, 10 mm² up to 426 m. For longer lines, a larger cross-section is required.

When is a cooling jacket required?
If the water around the motor flows slower than 0.3 m/s, for example in a wide well or tank. Without sufficient flow, the motor may not cool sufficiently.

Can the motor be controlled by a frequency converter?
Yes, in the range of 30 – 50/60 Hz. Power must be reduced by 10 % and, even at the lowest frequency, sufficient water flow around the motor must be maintained.
