Thermia BW ATLAS 18 Ground/Water Heat Pump – 4–18 kW, 184 L Hot Water Tank, Output up to 65 °C – SPECIAL OFFER
Code: IHP086L6188Product detailed description
Thermia BW ATLAS 18 is a premium inverter heat pump ground/water in a compact cabinet. In addition to the refrigeration circuit, it contains a control unit, circulation pumps, a three-way valve for heating/ hot water, an auxiliary electric heater and a stainless steel hot water tank with a volume of 184 l. The power is continuously adjustable in the range of 4–18 kW and the water at the outlet can reach up to 65 °C, so the device is suitable for new buildings as well as for reconstruction; the ATLAS series is intended for buildings with a heat loss of up to 30 kW.
Hot water with HGW and TWS technology
The superheated vapor heat exchanger (HGW) heats the hot water simultaneously with heating and the TWS coil ensures rapid heating and stable stratification of water in the tank. According to EN 16147, 344 l of water at 40 °C is available, up to 545 l when fully utilizing HGW. The water in the tank can reach up to 95 °C due to the superheated vapors, so a thermostatic mixing valve is mounted on the hot water outlet.
Parameters and equipment
- SCOP 6.15 at 35 °C and 4.55 at 55 °C (EN 14825, cold climate), COP 4.98 at B0/W35, energy class A+++
- quiet scroll compressor Copeland, refrigerant R410A (1.95 kg), stainless steel plate heat exchangers
- auxiliary heating in three steps 3/6/9 kW, power supply 400 V 3N~, circuit breaker 13–32 A depending on the heating setting
- control GENESIS with color touch display, Modbus for building control, Smart Grid and webserver Thermia Online
- passive cooling through a mixed circuit even without an expansion card; full cooling and pool heating control with EM3 card
Placement and connection
The cabinet has a width of 598 mm, a depth of approximately 710 mm and a height of 1864 mm; it weighs 187 kg empty and 377 kg with a filled tank, so it requires a solid floor. The non-freezing fluid circuit (28 mm) is connected from the left, right or top, heating 28 mm, cold and hot water 22 mm – without the need for flexible hoses. The delivery includes an expansion tank and filling device for the non-freezing fluid circuit, a dirt filter with a valve, safety valves 3 and 9 bar and an external sensor.
Installation: The heat pump is designed in the HPC software, installation and electrical connection must be performed by a professional company.

Frequently asked questions
What is included in the delivery?
In addition to the heat pump, safety valves 3 and 9 bar, external temperature sensor, expansion tank and filling device for the non-freezing fluid circuit, dirt filter with a shut-off valve, rubber gaskets and piping for connecting the non-freezing fluid circuit. The connecting kit IVAR.TER-PS for the ATLAS series is ordered separately.
Why is a mixing valve needed on the hot water outlet?
Thanks to the HGW technology, the water in the tank can reach up to 95 °C. A thermostatic mixing valve between cold and hot water reduces the temperature at the outlet and protects against scalding; alternatively, the temperature of the hot water can be reduced in the service menu.
Can ATLAS be used with a well instead of a borehole?
For the water/water source (groundwater or surface water), the WW version is intended, which already includes a built-in heat exchanger, flow sensor and EM3 card. This code is the BW version for a ground collector or borehole with non-freezing fluid.
What non-freezing fluid is used in the primary circuit?
A mixture of water and ethanol with anti-corrosion additives with a freezing point of −17 °C (±2 °C). The heat pump itself contains approximately 2 l of fluid and the venting and expansion tank approximately 3 l, the remaining volume depends on the length of the collector.
