Detailed information

Product detailed description

Vaillant aroVAIR pro VA 3-045 WN is the most powerful member of the aroVAIR pro WN wall-mounted fan coil series, designed for larger living rooms, spaces with higher heat loss, or longer, open-plan layouts. A cooling output of 3.96 kW and a heating output of up to 4.84 kW make it a full replacement even for larger panel radiators, while retaining the same advantages as the smaller models in the series - quiet DC inverter operation, an integrated 3-way switching valve and simple wall mounting. In terms of size, it is logically the largest of the three VA 3-WN units (1072 x 315 x 230 mm), yet it remains a slim casing comparable to a longer design radiator.

Technical parameters of the VA 3-045 WN

Cooling output (total / sensible)3.96 kW / 3.52 kW
Heating output (higher / lower water temperature)4.84 kW / 3.81 kW
Air flow (high / medium / low fan speed)862 / 741 / 634 m3/h
Unit dimensions (h x w x d)1072 x 315 x 230 mm
Power supply230 V, 50 Hz
Switching valveintegrated 3-way
Air filterwashable, integrated

Comparing the three models in the VA 3-WN series (VA 3-025 WN, VA 3-035 WN and VA 3-045 WN) shows a fairly smooth output scale from 2.70/2.94 kW through 3.81/4.30 kW to 3.96/4.84 kW cooling/heating - giving the investor the option to precisely match the output of each room to its actual heat loss and load, instead of undersizing or, conversely, oversizing with one universal size. The VA 3-045 WN model also has the highest maximum air flow in the series (862 m3/h), which for the same room area means faster air exchange and mixing, i.e. faster achievement of a uniform temperature throughout the space.

Why choose the Vaillant aroVAIR pro WN wall-mounted fan coil

Wall-mounted WN fan coils are a solution for anyone who wants air-conditioning-like comfort in a flat or family house without having to deal with a refrigerant circuit, drilling the facade for an outdoor unit, or servicing a refrigerant circuit with a certified refrigerant technician. The fan coil works on water - the same water that already circulates in the house's heating system - so it only needs to be connected to an existing or newly built low-temperature heating circuit. Combined with a heat pump, a single outdoor device (the heat pump) can supply heat and cold to any number of indoor fan coil units, with each room able to have its own independently adjustable comfort.

Who is the VA 3-045 WN intended for

This most powerful model in the WN series is suitable for large living rooms, open-plan layouts combining a living room with a kitchen and dining area, rooms with high ceilings (e.g. attic spaces with sloped ceilings and a larger air volume), or rooms with significant solar gains through glazed areas, where a higher cooling output is needed in summer. Thanks to its higher maximum air flow, it is also suitable where a sudden heat load needs to be resolved quickly, for example when there are more guests in the living room or after prolonged ventilation in winter.

Installation and connection

The wall-mounted VA 3-WN unit is mounted on the wall using the supplied mounting bracket, similarly to a classic panel radiator - the recommended height from the floor is approximately 15-20 cm, so that free air circulation is maintained both below and above the unit. The VA 3-WN model has an integrated 3-way switching valve directly in the unit body, so no separate switching valve needs to be installed in the pipework when switching between heating and cooling mode. A condensate drain hose is also included, which in cooling mode needs to be routed to a drain or collection vessel.

Electrical supply is standard single-phase 230 V; the unit is controlled either by the supplied wireless remote control with an LCD display, or optionally by the Vaillant VA 1-WC WK wired wall controller.

Compatibility with heat sources

Fan coils in the aroVAIR pro range are designed primarily to work with Vaillant aroTHERM and aroTHERM plus (air-to-water) heat pumps, where thanks to their ability to operate with low heating water temperatures (typically 35-45 °C) they maintain a high heat pump COP while also enabling summer cooling by connecting to the heat pump's cold water circuit in reverse mode. The unit can equally well be connected to a Vaillant flexoTHERM (ground-to-water) heat pump, or used as a supplementary heating element in a system with a Vaillant ecoTEC or ecoCOMPACT condensing boiler.

Design and aesthetic integration

Despite its higher output, the VA 3-045 WN retains the same slim, modern design as the rest of the series - a flat white casing with a smooth front panel and an integrated LCD display looks discreet indoors and does not visually take up space the way bulkier retro radiators do. Automatic tilting of the outlet louvre, both horizontally and vertically, also allows the air stream to be directed exactly where it is most needed in the room - for example towards a glazed wall in winter, or away from a seating area if direct draught at higher fan speeds needs to be avoided.

Maintenance and care

Vaillant aroVAIR pro fan coil units have a replaceable/washable air filter built in behind the front grille. It is recommended to check the filter and, if needed, clean it approximately once every 4-8 weeks during a season of intensive use, while a check once every 2-3 months is sufficient for normal operation. In cooling mode it is advisable to check the condensate drain's patency once a year.

Frequently asked questions

Is the VA 3-045 WN more demanding to install than the smaller models in the series?

No, the installation principle is identical - the wall bracket, hydraulic connection and 230 V electrical connection are the same for all three models in the VA 3-WN series; only the output and slightly larger casing dimensions differ.

Is it always worth choosing the largest model in the series just to be safe?

Not necessarily - the output should match the actual heat loss/load of the given room as calculated by a designer. An oversized unit may have lower control efficiency at partial output than a correctly sized smaller unit.

Can the VA 3-045 WN also heat a room with an attic space and a higher air volume?

Yes, thanks to the highest air flow in the series (up to 862 m3/h), this model is the most suitable for spaces with a larger air volume, such as attic rooms with sloped ceilings.

Can an external contact (e.g. a window sensor) be connected to the unit?

Yes, VA 3-WN units support an external control contact, for example to switch to a setback mode when a window is open; we recommend consulting the exact wiring with an installation company.

What warranty applies to this model?

The product carries the standard 2-year manufacturer's warranty from Vaillant.

Is a more powerful unit also noisier?

At the same fan speed, noise levels are similar to the smaller models thanks to the same DC fan technology; however, at full output the unit can deliver a higher air flow, which is only used at peak demand, while it normally runs at lower, quieter speeds.

Summary - why the VA 3-045 WN

The Vaillant aroVAIR pro VA 3-045 WN is the choice for more demanding spaces where higher heating and cooling output is needed without sacrificing quiet operation, ease of installation and aesthetic integration into the interior. Thanks to its integrated 3-way valve and compatibility with aroTHERM plus heat pumps, it is a natural part of a modern, low-temperature heating and cooling system.

Investment payback and overall system costs

When comparing an investment in a fan coil against alternatives (for example a standalone split air-conditioning system alongside existing radiator heating), it should be taken into account that the VA 3-045 WN fan coil, combined with a heat pump, solves both systems (heating and cooling) with a single source and a single set of pipework. This eliminates the need for a separate refrigerant line between the outdoor and indoor air-conditioning units, its regular inspections (refrigerant circuit tightness) required by EU F-gas legislation, and the risk of refrigerant leaks. The cost of running cooling also remains low, since it only consumes electrical energy to run the fan and the circulation pump, while the actual "cold" is generated by a heat pump operating in reverse mode with a fairly favourable cooling EER at moderate summer temperatures.

When designing several fan coils in one house (for example a combination of smaller VA 3-025/035 WN models in bedrooms and a larger VA 3-045 WN in the living room), the output of the heat pump itself is also sized jointly, so that it can cover the simultaneous peak demand of all connected units - we always recommend having this balance worked out by a qualified heating designer.

Comparison of the entire VA 3-WN series

VA 3-025 WN - cooling / heating2.70 kW / 2.94 kW
VA 3-035 WN - cooling / heating3.81 kW / 4.30 kW
VA 3-045 WN - cooling / heating3.96 kW / 4.84 kW (this product)
VA 3-025 WN - max. air flow492 m3/h
VA 3-035 WN - max. air flow825 m3/h
VA 3-045 WN - max. air flow862 m3/h

The comparison shows that the jump in output between the VA 3-025 WN and the VA 3-035 WN is more pronounced than between the VA 3-035 WN and the VA 3-045 WN, which are closer to each other in output - the VA 3-045 WN thus represents more of a "boosted" version of the mid-range model than a dramatically larger unit, which is also reflected in a similar footprint and only a slightly longer casing. When choosing between the VA 3-035 WN and the VA 3-045 WN for a borderline room case, we recommend opting for the larger model, since an output reserve means the unit will normally operate at lower, quieter speeds and will only draw on the output reserve on extreme days.

Static vs. dynamic heating and cooling

Large-area heating systems (underfloor, wall-based) are described as static - they transfer heat mainly by radiation from a large surface at a mild temperature difference, which is very energy-efficient but slow to control. The VA 3-045 WN fan coil, by contrast, represents a dynamic element - a small heat-exchange surface with forced air flow that can change output within minutes. In practice, both principles are often combined: underfloor heating as the basic, stable "backbone" of thermal comfort in the house, and fan coils as a supplementary, fast-reacting element in rooms with variable demands (for example a study used intermittently, or a room with large windows where the temperature fluctuates with the intensity of sunlight), and above all as the sole source of active cooling in summer, since underfloor heating alone generally does not provide sufficient cooling.

Additional accessories

For the VA 3-045 WN unit, as for the other members of the VA 3-WN series, you can also purchase the Vaillant VA 1-WC WK wired wall controller, which offers fixed placement of the controls on the room wall (suitable, for example, for shared or rented spaces, where a portable remote control could get lost) and more accurate temperature measurement directly in the living space instead of measuring at the air intake into the unit. The controller offers the same operating modes as the remote control (Auto, Heating, Drying, Cooling, Ventilation), a SWING function for tilting the louvre, three fan speed levels and the option to lock the keypad against unwanted operation, for example by children.

When ordering several units of the VA 3-045 WN or combining it with other models in the series for a single project, we recommend consulting our sales team about options for bulk delivery timing and possible joint import, since this is a product ordered from the manufacturer.
