Detailed information

Product detailed description

Vaillant Inspection Elbow 87°, Ø 110/160 mm

The inspection elbow combines two functions in a single part – a 87° change of direction (just like a standard elbow) and, at the same time, a removable inspection cap allowing inspection and cleaning of the inside of the pipe at the point of direction change. From an operational point of view, points of direction change are often the most critical – it is precisely in elbows that condensate or minor deposits can accumulate during long-term operation, which is why having inspection access right at this point is a practical solution that reduces the number of separate inspection parts needed in the assembly.

The part is used in the same places as a standard 87° elbow (transition from a horizontal to a vertical section), with the difference that it is chosen where operational requirements or applicable legislation require inspection access exactly at the point of direction change – for example at the outlet from the boiler into a shaft or before entering a roof terminal.

Vaillant Ø 110/160 mm Flue Gas Exhaust System

The pipe system with a diameter of Ø 110/160 mm belongs to the family of Vaillant concentric (coaxial) flue systems designed for high-capacity gas condensing boilers with higher rated output – typically the ecoTEC plus VU 806/5-5, 1006/5-5 and 1206/5-5 range (output range approx. 80–120 kW), the modular ecoCRAFT exclusiv and ecoVIT exclusiv assemblies, as well as cascade connections of multiple boilers to a common flue gas collector. The inner pipe, through which the flue gases flow, is made of durable polypropylene (PP) with high temperature and chemical resistance to condensate (condensate resistance class W according to EN 14471); the outer casing carrying combustion air is made of UV-stabilised plastic or aluminium, depending on the specific part. The system is certified for temperature class T120, pressure class P1 (positive-pressure system, suitable for condensing boilers) and corrosion class 1, which corresponds to the standard operating range of condensing boiler flue gases (low-temperature flue gases, acidic condensates).

The Ø 110/160 mm system is installed exclusively from original Vaillant parts – individual components (extensions, elbows, inspection parts, roof terminals and fixing elements) are combined into an assembly precisely according to the layout of the specific boiler room or plant room. All joints are sealed with a silicone seal using a locking (bayonet) system that ensures gas-tightness even with longer pipe lengths and allows easy installation and disassembly without the need for gluing or welding.

Comparison with Other Diameters of Vaillant Flue Systems

Vaillant offers concentric flue systems in several diameters depending on boiler output – the smallest common diameter, Ø 60/100 mm, is used for most wall-hung condensing boilers for houses and flats (ecoTEC pro/plus range up to approx. 35–65 kW); the Ø 80/125 mm diameter is used for boilers with higher output or for longer runs where lower pressure loss is required. The Ø 110/160 mm diameter, to which this part also belongs, is designed for the highest common output segment (ecoTEC plus 806/5-5 – 1206/5-5, ecoCRAFT exclusiv, ecoVIT exclusiv) and cascade assemblies, where a substantially larger volume of flue gases needs to be exhausted. Parts of different diameters are not interchangeable with each other – it is therefore always necessary to verify the exact system diameter on your boiler or in the project documentation before ordering.

Compatibility

The 87° inspection elbow is compatible with all assemblies of the Ø 110/160 mm system – higher-output ecoTEC plus range, ecoCRAFT exclusiv, ecoVIT exclusiv and cascade connections. It is chosen instead of a combination of a standard elbow and a separate inspection part whenever it is more advantageous, for spatial or design reasons, to have both elements (change of direction and inspection) in a single part.

Typical Use Cases

Typically installed at the outlet from the boiler into a vertical shaft, where this exact point (the lower part of the shaft) is also the most suitable location for the mandatory inspection access for the chimney sweep – by combining the change of direction and inspection in a single part, both space and the number of joints are saved compared to a separate elbow and inspection part placed next to each other.

When to Choose an Inspection Elbow Instead of a Combination of a Standard Elbow and a Separate Inspection Part

Choose the inspection elbow when it is more advantageous, for spatial reasons, to have the change of direction and inspection access at a single point of the run, for example right at the outlet from the boiler into the shaft. If you have enough space in the project and prefer separate elements (for example for easier future replacement of just one of them), you can achieve the same function using a combination of a separate 87° elbow and a separate inspection part placed next to each other.

Installation and Use

The inspection elbow is installed at the point of direction change in the same way as a standard 87° elbow, with emphasis on permanent accessibility of the inspection cap:

  • when choosing the orientation of the elbow, select the position of the inspection cap so that it remains accessible after completion of construction work (suspended ceilings, cladding),
  • the elbow is inserted using a bayonet lock at both ends, in the same way as other system parts,
  • it is advisable to install a support element right after the elbow continuing in the vertical direction, to transfer the weight of the further pipe section to the building structure,
  • the inspection cap should remain closed during operation and should only be opened during service or chimney sweep inspection.

Safety Notices

Installation and connection of the condensing boiler flue system may only be carried out by an authorised and trained installation company with professional competence for gas appliances. An incorrectly assembled or leaking flue gas exhaust route can lead to flue gas leakage (including carbon monoxide) into living spaces, which poses a serious health risk. Use only original Vaillant parts of the corresponding diameter and certification – combining with parts from other manufacturers or of different diameters is not permitted and is in breach of the CE certification conditions of the entire assembly as well as the boiler warranty. After any intervention in the route (part replacement, service, inspection), a leak-tightness check must be carried out before putting the boiler back into operation.

Maintenance and Care

We recommend checking the flue system at least once a year during the regular boiler service – especially the tightness of joints, the flow of condensate drainage (if part of the assembly) and the mechanical fixing along the entire route. It is advisable to visually inspect the outer plastic parts (roof terminals, wall sleeves) after the winter season for possible mechanical damage caused by ice or wind. Under normal operation, the inside of the pipes does not become clogged with deposits the way traditional solid-fuel chimneys do, but the inspection elements in the assembly (inspection elbows, inspection parts, T-pieces) exist precisely so that a service technician can easily look inside the pipe during an inspection and clean it if necessary, without having to disassemble the entire route.

For boilers with a longer flue route, we recommend keeping a simple service log with the date of the last tightness check and the condition of the inspection openings – this will make planning future chimney sweep inspections easier and provide an overview in the event of a warranty claim or property sale.

Why Buy This Part at Atria.sk

We offer exclusively original Vaillant parts with 100% compatibility with this brand's flue systems – no dubious-quality universal replacements that could compromise the gas-tightness of the entire assembly or void the boiler warranty. Goods are usually in stock or quickly available from the supplier, so the completion of a boiler room or a service intervention is not delayed by one missing part. If you are unsure which exact part you need for your assembly, we will advise you by phone or email – just provide the boiler model and the length of the flue route you need to bridge.

We normally process orders within one business day and ship items in stock immediately. If you are not sure which exact part your project requires (for example when combining several lengths and elbows into a single run), we will gladly help you choose the correct assembly before you order – just send us a floor plan or a photo of the installation location along with the boiler model.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an inspection elbow and a standard 87° elbow?

An inspection elbow additionally has a removable cap through which you can look inside the pipe right at the point of direction change – a standard 87° elbow does not have this option and only serves to change the direction of the run.

When is it more appropriate to use an inspection elbow instead of a combination of an elbow and a separate inspection part?

An inspection elbow is appropriate when you need inspection access directly at the point of direction change and want to save space and the number of joints in the assembly – it functionally replaces both a separate elbow and an inspection part in a single component.

Is an inspection elbow more expensive than a standard elbow?

Due to the additional cap and seal, the price of an inspection elbow is usually higher than that of a standard elbow of the same angle, which is also common with other flue system manufacturers.

Must the inspection cap on the elbow always be accessible from outside?

Yes, just as with a separate inspection part, the cap must remain permanently accessible after completion of construction work for future inspections.

Can this elbow also be used on the exterior part of the route?

Yes, both the material and the seal are weather-resistant, so the elbow can also be used on a short exterior section of the route before the roof terminal.

Does the inspection elbow also save costs compared to separate parts?

Generally yes – a single part with two functions is usually more cost-effective than a separate elbow plus a separate inspection part, and it also saves the space needed in the route.

Can the inspection cap on the elbow be replaced separately if damaged?

The inspection cap and its seal are usually also available as a separate spare part – if the cap is damaged, it is not necessary to replace the entire elbow; contact us to check the availability of the specific spare part.

Does the inspection elbow need to be oriented with the cap facing outwards from the structure?

Yes, the cap must be accessible from outside after installation is completed (for example through an inspection hatch in the shaft cladding), otherwise it loses its purpose.

Can the inspection elbow also be used where a standard elbow without inspection would be sufficient?

Yes, the inspection elbow fully replaces a standard 87° elbow in terms of direction change; the inspection cap is simply an additional feature that you can simply not use if not needed.

Can the section of the route beyond the elbow also be inspected through the inspection opening in the elbow?

The opening provides direct view and access mainly to the space of the elbow itself and to the immediately adjoining sections; further inspection points along the route are used, as per the project, to check more distant parts.

Is the seal of the inspection cap on the elbow a spare part, or does the whole elbow need to be replaced?

The seal of the inspection cap is commonly available as a separate spare part, so when it wears out it is not necessary to replace the entire elbow.

Is the inspection elbow heavier than a standard elbow of the same angle?

The weight difference due to the additional cap and its seal is minimal and has no practical effect on the installation method or on the need for support of the part.

Can the inspection elbow be ordered in an angle other than 87°?

In the Vaillant range, the inspection version of the elbow is commonly manufactured mainly at an 87° angle, as this is the most frequently used change of direction combined with the need for inspection; for specific requirements, please contact us and we will check the availability of other variants.
