Detailed information

Product detailed description

Shaft connection with 87° inspection T-bend – Ø 110/160 mm

This set addresses one of the most common situations when installing large-capacity Vaillant condensing boilers in apartment buildings and larger buildings – connecting a horizontal or slightly inclined flue gas discharge route from the boiler to an existing vertical building shaft or chimney. The package includes an 87° inspection T-bend (allowing the pipe direction to change by almost a right angle while also providing an inspection/cleaning opening), a 0.5 m flue extension to bridge the distance between the boiler and the shaft, and a support bend that carries the weight of the vertical section of pipe in the shaft and transfers it to the building structure instead of loading the connection to the boiler.

This type of connection is used mainly when transitioning from a concentric Ø 110/160 mm system (running from the boiler) to a vertical shaft, where the route can either continue as a concentric system or switch to a shaft (LAS) system with separate air intake through the free space of the shaft. The inspection opening in the T-bend is key for regular service inspections – a chimney sweep or service technician can access it to check patency and tightness without having to dismantle the entire route.

Vaillant Ø 110/160 mm flue gas discharge system

The Ø 110/160 mm pipe system belongs to the family of concentric (coaxial) Vaillant flue systems designed for large-capacity gas condensing boilers with higher rated output – typically the ecoTEC plus VU 806/5-5, 1006/5-5 and 1206/5-5 range (output range approx. 80–120 kW), ecoCRAFT exclusiv and ecoVIT exclusiv modular assemblies, as well as cascade connections of multiple boilers to a common flue gas collector. The inner pipe through which flue gases flow is made of durable polypropylene (PP) with high temperature and chemical resistance to condensate (condensate resistance class W according to EN 14471), while the outer casing carrying combustion air is made of UV-stabilized plastic or aluminium depending on the specific part. The system is certified for temperature class T120, pressure class P1 (positive pressure system, suitable for condensing boilers) and corrosion class 1, which corresponds to the normal operating range of flue gases from condensing boilers (low-temperature flue gases, acidic condensate).

The Ø 110/160 mm system is installed exclusively using original Vaillant parts – individual components (extensions, bends, inspection pieces, roof terminals and fixing elements) are combined with each other into an assembly precisely according to the layout of the specific boiler room or plant room. All joints are sealed with a silicone gasket using a bayonet locking system, which guarantees gas-tightness even with longer pipe runs and allows easy installation and disassembly without the need for gluing or welding.

Comparison with other Vaillant flue system diameters

Vaillant offers concentric flue systems in several diameters depending on boiler output – the smallest common diameter, Ø 60/100 mm, is used for most wall-mounted condensing boilers for houses and flats (ecoTEC pro/plus range up to approx. 35–65 kW), while the Ø 80/125 mm diameter is used for boilers with higher output or longer runs where a lower pressure drop is required. The Ø 110/160 mm diameter, to which this part also belongs, is intended for the highest common output segment (ecoTEC plus 806/5-5 – 1206/5-5, ecoCRAFT exclusiv, ecoVIT exclusiv) and cascade assemblies, where a significantly larger volume of flue gas needs to be discharged. Parts of different diameters are not interchangeable – it is therefore always necessary to verify the exact system diameter on your boiler or in the project documentation before ordering.

Compatibility with boiler models

The set is designed for connecting a Ø 110/160 mm route from higher-output ecoTEC plus boilers, ecoCRAFT exclusiv and ecoVIT exclusiv to an existing vertical building shaft. It is mainly used during boiler room renovations in apartment buildings where the original chimney shaft is available and the project plans either to continue the concentric system in the shaft or to switch to a single-wall shaft (LAS) system with a diameter of Ø 110 mm.

Typical usage scenarios

This set is most often ordered when replacing an old solid fuel or gas boiler with a new Vaillant condensing boiler in a larger boiler room of an apartment building, where the investor needs to connect the new flue route to the original masonry shaft. In this case, the support bend takes on the weight of the entire vertical branch of pipe in the shaft, so it does not load the connection directly at the boiler, which is a common mistake in improvised solutions without original parts.

A second typical scenario is when the route from the boiler runs a short horizontal section (bridged precisely by the 0.5 m extension from the set) to a wall behind which the shaft is located – the T-bend provides both the change of direction and inspection access at a single point.

How to choose the right connection set

Choose this set when the route from the boiler needs to change direction into a vertical building shaft while also requiring inspection access and support for the weight of the vertical pipe branch at this point. If your installation does not require connection to a shaft (for example, if the route continues directly to a roof terminal), a standalone 87° bend or inspection bend without a support element will be sufficient instead of this set.

Installation

The assembly is installed at the point where the horizontal (or slightly rising) route from the boiler changes direction into the vertical shaft. Recommended procedure:

  • first, the support bend is fitted into the shaft wall or onto a support bracket – this bend takes on the weight of the entire vertical branch of pipe in the shaft,
  • the 87° inspection T-bend follows the support bend, and its side arm with the inspection cover must remain accessible (not built in or covered) for future inspections,
  • the 0.5 m extension is used to fine-tune the exact distance between the T-bend and the outlet on the boiler or on the preceding part of the route,
  • all joints are pushed together with the bayonet lock until they stop; it is recommended to lightly lubricate the seals with silicone grease before assembly to ease insertion and improve tightness,
  • after installation, a pressure/smoke tightness test should be performed according to the boiler manufacturer's instructions.

The inspection opening of the T-bend must remain permanently accessible – when building suspended ceilings, cladding or cabinets around the pipe, a door or removable panel must be left exactly at the inspection point.

Safety notices

Installation and connection of the condensing boiler's flue gas discharge system may only be carried out by an authorized and trained installation company with professional competence for gas appliances. An incorrectly assembled or leaking flue gas discharge route can lead to flue gas leakage (including carbon monoxide) into living spaces, which poses a serious health risk. Use only original Vaillant parts of the corresponding diameter and certification – combination with parts from other manufacturers or of different diameters is not permitted and violates the conditions of the CE certification of the entire assembly as well as the boiler warranty. After any intervention on the route (part replacement, service, inspection), a tightness check must be carried out before putting the boiler back into operation.

Maintenance and care

We recommend having the flue gas discharge system checked at least once a year during regular boiler service – especially the tightness of joints, the patency of condensate drainage (if part of the assembly) and the mechanical fixing along the entire route. It is advisable to visually inspect the outer plastic parts (roof terminals, wall sleeves) after the winter period for possible mechanical damage caused by ice or wind. Under normal operation, the inside of the pipes does not become fouled with deposits the way classic solid fuel chimneys do, but the inspection elements in the assembly (inspection bends, inspection pieces, T-pieces) exist precisely so that a service technician can easily look inside the pipe during an inspection and clean it if necessary without having to disassemble the entire route.

For boilers with a longer flue discharge route, we recommend keeping a simple service record of the date of the last tightness check and the condition of the inspection openings – this will make it easier to plan further chimney sweep inspections and provide an overview in case of a warranty claim or property sale.

We offer exclusively original Vaillant parts with 100% compatibility with this brand's flue systems – no universal substitutes of dubious quality that could compromise the gas-tightness of the entire assembly or void the boiler warranty. Goods are usually in stock or quickly available from the supplier, so the completion of a boiler room or a service intervention is not delayed by a single missing part. If you are unsure which exact part you need for your assembly, we will be happy to advise you by phone or email – just let us know the boiler model and the length of the discharge route you need to bridge.

We normally process orders within one business day and ship items in stock immediately. If you are not sure which exact part your project requires (for example, when combining several lengths and bends into one route), we will be happy to help you choose the right assembly before you order – just send us a floor plan or photo of the installation site along with the boiler model.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly does this package contain?

The set contains three components: an 87° inspection T-bend with a removable inspection cover, a 0.5 m flue extension, and a support bend that transfers the weight of the vertical pipe branch to the building structure.

Why is the inspection opening important at exactly this location?

The shaft connection point is the most critical from an operational point of view – condensate and any impurities from the chimney most often accumulate here. The inspection opening allows regular inspection and cleaning without dismantling the entire assembly.

Must the support bend always be part of the assembly?

Yes, when connecting to a vertical shaft, the support bend takes on the weight of the entire rising pipe branch – without it, this weight would load the joint at the boiler or at the preceding part, which the manufacturer does not permit.

Can this set also be used when converting a chimney for an older solid fuel boiler?

The set is certified exclusively for the Vaillant Ø 110/160 mm system in combination with this brand's gas condensing boilers. When converting an existing chimney, its structural condition and diameter should always first be assessed by an authorized chimney sweep.

Does the inspection opening need to be additionally sealed?

The inspection cover is factory-fitted with a seal that ensures the same gas-tightness as the rest of the system, so no additional sealing or gluing is needed – after inspection, simply secure the cover properly.

Can the set be used without connecting to a shaft, just as a T-piece with inspection in a straight route?

The set is structurally designed specifically for connection to a vertical shaft, including the support bend that transfers the weight of the vertical branch. If you need inspection access in a completely straight route without a change of direction to vertical, a standalone inspection piece or T-piece without a support bend is more suitable.

Can the 0.5 m extension from the set be replaced with a different length?

Yes, if you need a different distance between the boiler and the T-bend, you can replace or supplement the 0.5 m extension with another extension from the Ø 110/160 mm range (0.5 / 1.0 / 2.0 m) sold separately.

Must the support bend be anchored directly into the shaft wall?

The support bend is anchored to the building structure (shaft wall, support bracket) in such a way as to safely carry the weight of the entire vertical pipe branch – the exact anchoring method is determined by the installation company depending on the specific shaft structure.

Is this set suitable for new construction, or only for renovation?

The set is intended primarily for connection to an existing vertical shaft, which is typical for renovations; for new buildings without an existing shaft, the route is usually handled directly with a concentric system without needing this set.

How does this set differ from the 0.5 m extension sold separately?

The 0.5 m extension is included in this set, which also contains the 87° inspection T-bend and the support bend – these are not sold separately as part of this specific combination, so it is more advantageous to order the whole set at once if you need all three functions.

Must this set be installed exclusively by a Vaillant service technician?

Installation may be carried out by any professionally qualified installation company authorized for gas appliances; it does not necessarily have to be an authorized Vaillant service provider, but it is important to follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.
