You will find the boards in the system insulation boards and polystyrene category, and the complete system in the underfloor heating category.

Do you like the idea of settling down comfortably after a hard day in front of your favourite programme with warm feet? With underfloor heating you can enjoy that pleasure every day. What is more, it means comfort for your feet, health for your body and savings for your wallet.
If, despite all the benefits of underfloor heating, you are still put off by the more demanding installation, fitting it with system insulation boards will change your mind. System insulation boards for underfloor heating make installation quick and simple and will leave you fully satisfied.
Step into the world of system insulation boards
System insulation boards for underfloor heating act as thermal insulation and at the same time make it easier to lay the pipe at the required spacing. This is what is known as a wet underfloor heating system, in which the pipe is covered with concrete screed.
UHP55 system insulation boards with increased hardness stand up well to heavy loads in offices and family homes alike. The polystyrene insulation boards are made of extruded polystyrene with a flexural strength of 115 kPA. A green polyethylene film is bonded to the board to protect the polystyrene from damage during installation.

The top of the board is formed by octagonal studs (known as mushrooms) with a widened profile at the top, which stops the pipe from “popping out” of the grooves. The studs are 75mm apart, but for heating in houses or offices a spacing of 150 mm is used. They allow any pipe to be fitted, ideally PEX-AL-PEX pipe in 16 or 20 mm, which is easy to shape, bend and join.

All system insulation boards have an interlocking edge, which ensures that each side of the board is overlapped by the next one and prevents concrete from getting under the polystyrene.
Installing underfloor heating with system insulation boards
With system insulation boards, installing underfloor heating is very simple. We lay the boards on the base slab and fit the pipe into them . We then carry out a pressure test and pour concrete screed over the boards to the required height. Approximately 6 m of pipe is needed per 1 m2 of underfloor heating. The depth of the screed depends on the required build-up height of the floor.

The concrete should be between 2 and 10 cm deep. To prevent the concrete from cracking as temperatures change, we use a concrete mix with plasticiser. Thanks to this additive in the concrete we achieve a better bond between the pipe and the heated concrete slab. The plasticiser improves the workability of the concrete, helps it to flow and increases its resistance to cracking.
To allow the concrete to expand around the perimeter of the room even at higher temperatures, we use a perimeter expansion strip. This takes up the thermal expansion of the concrete in the underfloor heating installation. The strip has a film skirt which we lay over the edge of the polystyrene to stop concrete from seeping in.
The system insulation board is supplied in sheets of 0.78 m2 with an overall height of 58 mm.

If you are limited by the build-up height and are installing underfloor heating with a lower profile, you can use the UHP53 system insulation board.
