A circulation pump that breathes life into your heating

It would be hard to find anyone who does not enjoy stepping into a warm home when it is damp and raw outside and temperatures are falling below freezing. Behind the feeling of a warm home, however, lie a number of technical requirements whose perfect coordination we experience as smooth, trouble-free heating. One of its components is the circulation pump, which delivers hot water to the radiators or to the underfloor heating pipes.

How a heating system works

The heating also includes a room thermostat, which senses the temperature in the room. When it registers that the required temperature has been reached, the heating system becomes temporarily idle. When the temperature drops below the desired value, however, the room thermostat registers the change and sends an electrical signal to the central heating boiler. The boiler fires up and heats the water until it reaches a preset temperature in the boiler body (e.g. 40 degrees). Once this is reached, the thermostat switches on the power supply and starts the electric motor of the circulation pump. The circulation of hot water and the heating of the rooms in your home then continue until the desired temperature is reached.

What a circulation pump is for

Circulation pumps for central and underfloor heating are devices that circulate water from the boiler to the heating system. They drive the water through the heating pipes by means of a built-in impeller. Modern pumps are of the so-called wet-rotor type and allow the motor speed to be adjusted. This allows finer balancing of the heating system.

Development has not stood still in this field either, and quality circulation pumps have to meet many criteria. Besides a long service life and low electricity consumption, do not hesitate to ask your heating equipment supplier about the pump's operating noise level too. Sound travels up to four times faster in pipework and water than in air. An equally important feature is the ability to work with high temperatures, often in excess of 100° C. If, for example, a solid fuel boiler were to overheat, it is the pump that can cool the overheated boiler down via the boiler controls.

Your new Avansa 25/6/180

If you are looking for a pump designed for heating, underfloor heating and water or solar circuits, we recommend choosing the Avansa 25/6/180 circulation pump. In the box you will find the pump, weighing 2.8 kg, a warranty card and instructions in Slovak. In them you can read about the operating conditions,  how to install the pump and you will also find a few tips on how to maintain it.

The Avansa 25/6/180 circulation pump is designed for central heating systems. The body of this sturdy, burgundy-red pump is made of cast aluminium. Beneath the black housing is the terminal box. A special selector is fitted to it, with which you can set one of three speeds. The third and most powerful speed  achieves a head of up to 6 metres.

A brief description with a breakdown of the power and head at each speed is given on the rating plate on the front of the pump. The cable entry is located on its side. Inside the pump is a high-quality two-pole asynchronous motor. Its benefit is that it does not require overload protection. The pump bearing is lubricated by water, so when positioning the pump we must not forget to install it with the shaft horizontal. The degree of protection provided by the enclosure is IP44.

The distance between the suction and discharge ports on this model of Avansa circulation pump is 180 mm, and the nominal port diameter is 25 mm. You connect the Avansa pump to the circuit using a 6/4-inch connection.
