Dear customer, we know that choosing the right system insulation board, also known as polystyrene for underfloor heating, can be very difficult. Below you will find a simple description that will help you decide, or at least narrow down your choice of polystyrene for your house, flat, cottage or production premises.
For underfloor heating where there is enough room for a floor build-up of 10cm, choose boards 5,8cm thick and lay approx. 5,0cm of concrete screed over the top of the board, which is the optimum from a heating point of view. For underfloor heating where floor thickness is a problem, choose thinner boards, or simply use a plain system board with no thermal insulation properties, so that the correct pipe spacing is maintained. If you are building a prefabricated or timber-frame house, the ideal construction for underfloor heating is the uhp 48 board with heat-spreader plates, installed without any wet trades, which is an important feature in timber buildings. A more detailed description of how to design and install underfloor heating can be found in the section "DIY underfloor heating"
Other technical data, dimensions, packaging, detailed photographs and compressive strength are available in the detailed description of each polystyrene board.

Hello! Is it a good idea to combine underfloor heating and wall heating?
-
Hello, I would rather not put both underfloor heating and wall heating in the same room. It can be done, but on two separate manifolds. Have a nice day-
-
Hello! Thank you for your reply, but I was mainly thinking of supplementary heating for the in-between seasons (spring and autumn), when it is not worth running the underfloor heating - e.g. when the outdoor temperature drops suddenly, as it did this May.... Thank you in advance for this answer too. Kind regards,
-
Hello, I would like to ask your opinion on laying underfloor heating on mineral wool, because I want the best possible sound insulation, or please suggest an alternative
-
Hello, in principle it can go on mineral wool. Just make sure the floor does not sink after a few years. Have a nice day.
-
Hello, I have a question: how many metres of underfloor heating pipe do I need per m2 if I want to reach a temperature of 24 degrees in the building, for example for 10 m2? Thank you very much.
-
Hello. If you mean underfloor heating, roughly 5-6 metres of pipe are used per 1m2. Have a nice day
-
Hello, I would need a system insulation board for approx. 6m2, what would it cost? Thank you
-
Hello, you will find the system insulation board at the following address:https://www.atria.sk/systemova-izolacna-doska-uhp55/, and once you have selected the number of pieces you need, the shopping basket will work out the total for your purchase.
-
Which underfloor heating system does the UPH55 board belong to - rehav, unopor ivar, univenta ??? Or is it just a board? Edge strips, cabinets and so on - which system is this board part of.
-
Hello, this system insulation board is not supplied as part of any system. The full technical data is shown at this link https://www.atria.sk/systemova-izolacna-doska-uhp55/. Have a nice day

Which floor polystyrene should I use to insulate a floor with no cellar beneath it? I want to use 8 cm - 2 cm of XPS at the bottom and then 6 cm of EPS. Is that OK, is EPS hard enough, will a 6 - 8 cm screed not crack on top of it? Thank you
-
Hello, I am planning to install underfloor heating. I have 13 cm available - 6 cm of insulation + 7cm of screed. I want to lay the insulation as 3+3 cm (polystyrene), fix rails to the top of the 2nd polystyrene layer, clip the pipes into them and pour concrete over it (I will not use a system board, to save centimetres). Can those two bottom layers be ordinary floor polystyrene, or do they have to be extruded?? Those are very expensive. What do you think? Thank you.

Good evening, I would like to ask you for a quotation for a solar set (complete), underfloor heating (complete with a condensing boiler), or alternatively a heat pump. All of it for use in a new-build prefabricated house. Installation is planned for January or February 2013. To give you a better idea of the house in question, I am attaching a sample quotation for underfloor heating and a solar set that I already have (to illustrate everything that should be included). I am also attaching a picture of the floor plan of the house. Thank you in advance for your reply and quotation. If possible, I would ask you to price the solar set in two versions: a set used for domestic hot water only, and a set that would also be used to heat the underfloor heating. Thank you once again. Kind regards, Richard

Good evening, I have just noticed that you also offer wastewater treatment plants, so I would like to ask for a quotation for that product as well. The house will be lived in all year round by a family of 4. There is no natural watercourse nearby (a stream or the like), but the water can be discharged into an unmaintained ditch. Please quote for the complete job (the whole assembly up to the connection to the house + installation). Thank you very much. As for timing, again January or February 2013.

Hello, unfortunately we are an online shop only; we do not prepare heating designs or quotations at all. The most I can do is help you find the materials you will need. Have a nice day.

I am building a house. I have 25cm available for the floor. What build-up - polystyrene, underfloor heating, concrete, adhesive, floor tiles - would you recommend, in cm?
-
Good day to you. I would like to ask for your help with the following. I read on your website about thermostats for controlling the pump at the boiler. In my case I have 2 pumps. One is the boiler pump, which the boiler controls itself, and the other is the underfloor pump (for the underfloor heating), which unfortunately I switch on by hand so that it draws hot water from the boiler. I would like to get rid of this somehow, ideally with a thermostat that switches according to whether or not hot water is coming from the boiler. There is a low-loss header connected between the pumps. I bought a 20-90 strap-on thermostat but was not at all happy with it; it did not switch properly, or switched late, only at 50 C, whereas my underfloor heating runs at about 35 C. So it went straight in the bin. On your site I saw some electronic thermostats with a sensor, which might respond better and more flexibly, so I would like to ask whether you could suggest a solution, or advise me whether such an electronic thermostat would be suitable. My idea is to measure the temperature of the pipe at the boiler (pipe size approx. 1 - 1.5cm) and switch on the additional pump as soon as possible, without long delays. I noticed the EUROTEMP 11C thermostat on your website, but I do not know whether it is the right choice. I could not find anything about the sensor and how it measures. I would therefore appreciate your opinion or a suggested solution, and I would order something that works straight away. Thank you and kind regards, Rado Jan

Hello, the only thing that comes to mind is the TTUV1 thermostat, which has a function for setting the difference between switching off and on (hysteresis) https://www.atria.sk/elektricky-termostat-adex-ttuv/. You set the switch-on or switch-off temperature on the thermostat. This cannot be set on the Salus. Have a nice day.

Hello, I would like to ask what the most suitable "further layers" are for dry underfloor heating with UHP 48? (what to put between the UHP 48 and the final floor - tiles)
-
Hello. Between the system insulation board and the floor you only need impact sound insulation, or a foil made for that purpose. Have a nice day.
-
Hello, I am drawing up the plans for my future house and working out the floors, and I would like to use your system insulation boards for underfloor heating... I am just looking for a floor build-up that works with a laminate finish as well as ordinary floor tiles. Is there something universal, or would a combination be better, for example UHP48, or UHP 54 or UHP 53 under the tiles? Thank you for your reply.
-
Hello, for underfloor heating choose UHP 53 or UHP 55. These are basically the best sellers and, given their hardness, the cheapest. UHP 54 polystyrene is softer and your floor may sink after a few years. Have a nice day.
-
Hello, we are interested in UHP55 system insulation boards; the floor area is 120 m2. Could you please give us a quotation including delivery and all costs? We are from Poprad; when could the goods be delivered? Thank you.

I have set aside a height of 15 cm for the floor. If I use the polystyrene board with an overall thickness of 5,8cm plus 5 cm of concrete screed, should I put another layer of polystyrene approx. 4 cm thick under the polystyrene board?
-
Well, in that case you have no other option, but put those 4 cm of polystyrene underneath the polystyrene into which you lay the pipe. So right at the bottom.
-
I am thinking about underfloor heating in a house I am currently renovating, but I am finding it hard to decide because I am limited by the overall height of the system and, on top of that, I cannot find the answer online. If my current floor is at "zero", how much will it rise in total if I have underfloor heating installed? Thank you very much for your reply and have a nice evening, Rado.
-
Well, that depends on the polystyrene for the underfloor heating, then on the concrete and on the floor finish. I am not quite sure how to answer you; if you want underfloor heating, think about the maximum you can raise the floor by, and then I can tell you which polystyrene you need, roughly how much concrete, and so on.

Allow approx. 2cm for the pipe with its fixing, and at least 4,5cm of screed above the pipe if it is cement-based. Because of unevenness and strength, an overall screed thickness of 7cm is used. Above a lived-in room, at least 4cm of EPS under the screed, 6cm recommended; above the ground, at least 10cm of EPS, 12cm recommended; it depends on the heat loss of the building - calculate it, also because of the floor surface temperature. With a screed flatness of 5mm/2m and 8mm tiles, allow approx. 6mm for adhesive. A system board slightly reduces the strength of the screed; if height is a problem, you could consider anhydrite /overall height needed approx. 4cm/, though at a higher price and with complications.
