Guide to dry underfloor heating with UHPD polystyrene

For  m2 (pipe spacing 150 mm) you need pcs of UHPD boards, m of pipe, pcs of UHPS heat distribution plates, - way manifold, pcs of EK adapters + a manifold cabinet.

You will find the boards in the system insulation boards and polystyrene category, and the complete system in the underfloor heating category.

For  m2 (pipe spacing 300 mm) you need pcs of UHPD boards, m of pipe, pcs of UHPS heat distribution plates, - way manifold, pcs of EK adapters + a manifold cabinet.

The calculations are for guidance only. If you would like a specific design, do not hesitate to contact us.

Installing dry underfloor heating with the UHPD system insulation board

Polystyrene for underfloor heating, 3 mm high, with pipe spacing in multiples of 12.5 cm and a heat-reflecting layer made up of reflective plates.

Materials used and an explanation of the underfloor heating build-up:

1. UHPD system insulation board (polystyrene), dimensions 1,0m x 0,5m x 3cm thick

Pipe spacing in multiples of 12,5cm

2. Heat distribution (reflective) plate for laying underfloor heating pipe
3. UHP16 polybutylene pipe or PEXALPEX 16x2mm with oxygen barrier 4. DP50 self-adhesive perimeter expansion strip around the walls
5. Floor or load-bearing layer (for example RIGIPS E25 floor panels)

Procedure for installing underfloor heating on a solid base:

1. Fix the cabinet into the prepared opening  in the wall.
2. Place the manifold in the cabinet and fix it to the guide rails inside. The manifold bar with the flow meters is for the hot water flow, so position it at the top. Put the second bar, with valves only, at the bottom.
3. On a clean, solid and level base 5 lay the UHPD system insulation board (polystyrene) over the whole area.
4. Stick the DP50 self-adhesive perimeter expansion strip around the walls so that the plastic “skirt” lies on the UHPD board
5. Fit the UHPS heat distribution plates into the system insulation board. If the floor finish is to be ceramic tiles, put the plates in every second groove. For a floating floor, put plates in every groove
6. Feed the start of the pipe under the guide rail in the cabinet, secure the bend with the 5058 pipe bend guide and begin laying the pipe to the required loop length . Lay the pipe in a “snail” (spiral) pattern as shown in the picture.  ( if you have planned a spacing of 15cm, lay it at 30cm and on the way back run it down the middle, which gives you a laying spacing of 15cm)
7. Once all the loops have been laid, use RCS16 compression fittings to connect the UHP16 or PEXALPEX16 pipe to the manifold. Connect the hot water flow where the flow meters are and the return below it, always so that the flow and return of each loop sit one above the other on the manifold. To make checking easier, label each loop with a number and the name of the room.
8. Lay E25 panels with a total thickness of 25mm on the resulting surface. Glue the panels together and screw them down in accordance with the installation instructions supplied.

Good afternoon. I am emailing you a quotation for 55m at 125 mm spacing (the closest). However, it really is not necessary; I would only use it in the bathroom and WC, elsewhere 250 mm will be enough for you. Have a nice day.

Hello, I have now measured up exactly for the dry underfloor heating and it comes to: 125 mm spacing - WC + bathroom - 10 m2, 250 mm spacing 55 m2. Could I ask you one last time for a price for these quantities??? I would also like to ask about delivery - can you bring it to the site or do I have to collect it myself?? The site is in Levice. Thank you very much for your help

The board at the bottom is 3cm. Isn't that too little? What happens if you put 25-30cm there,

Good afternoon. I would like to know whether it would be possible to 'convert' part of an older heating system (radiators with side connections) to underfloor heating and, if so, what the requirements for a new boiler would be. The underfloor heating would cover approx. 40m2 and the rest would be covered by approx. 5 radiators. Thank you!

Good afternoon. In principle any heating system can be converted to underfloor heating. However, if you also have radiators and an older boiler, you have to separate the water so that the underfloor heating receives a temperature of no more than 55 degrees. That is what these manifolds with a pump are for: https://www.atria.sk/vykurovacia-technika/rozdelovace-nerezove/rozdelovace-podlahove-kurenie/. Have a nice day

I have the same question as one already asked below that has not been answered. When laying dry underfloor heating with UHPD and heat distribution plates, can a laminate floating floor be laid directly on the plates? And a second question - the difference in height between where there is a plate and where there is not - will it cause a problem when laying the floating floor? Thank you.

Good afternoon. Yes, that is right, the floor can be laid directly on the plates. However, a thin impact sound insulation layer is often laid on the plates as well. As for the second question, I have never actually heard of any problem when laying the floor; the plate is only 0.5mm thick. So I do not think it should be a problem. Have a nice day

Good afternoon, you will see the approximate price once you add the product to the shopping basket; for 1 m2 you will need roughly 5 metres of pipe.

Hello, if I have understood correctly, with dry underfloor heating I could proceed roughly like this: on the cinder concrete I have on the floor I would lay a timber frame, polystyrene in the gaps, plates on top, the pipe in those, and on top of that (insulation?) a deck of 25mm OSB boards. Does insulation have to go there or can there be an air gap? And if insulation, what kind? Thank you in advance for your reply

Good afternoon, exactly as you have described, except that no further insulation should go on top of the pipe, at most an impact sound underlay and the floor on top of that. Have a nice day.

Good afternoon! I see you are online over the holidays too. I have been studying dry underfloor heating for 3 days now. I would like to ask what I need at the point where the ends of the pipes will be. Is a drain needed, etc.?

Good afternoon, I do not quite understand; at the end of the pipe you use an underfloor heating manifold, for example as shown in the picture here: https://www.atria.sk/clanky/podlahove-kurenie-a-vykurovanie/. Have a nice day

Good afternoon, can a floating floor be laid directly instead of E25? In a bathroom with tiles it is clear, E25 will go there without question. Thank you

What board goes on top of dry underfloor heating? The guide mentions E25, but I did not see it in your range. What kind of material is it? Can tiles be laid on dry underfloor heating? I am dealing with a bathroom of about 16m2

Good afternoon! I have read this guide and I am interested in this kind of system. I need some advice. I have an old 400-year-old house with no concrete slabs. Instead of concrete I want to install a timber structure with OSB boards on top. Can underfloor heating be installed on that kind of base too? Thank you

Hello. With dry underfloor heating it basically does not matter what you lay it on. The base needs to be level; on it goes the polystyrene for dry underfloor heating, then the plates, the pipe in those, insulation on top and finally some kind of floor.
