Wireless sensors and TECH control panels communicate in the 868 MHz band – this is the European ISM band reserved for short-range devices and is less crowded than the common 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band. Communication is two-way: the panel not only receives temperature values from the sensor, but also sends back commands (for example, confirmation of receipt or requests for setting changes). This is important to understand – it is not a one-way transmitting device like a wireless thermometer, but a full-fledged communication pair.

During pairing, so-called device identifiers (ID) are exchanged. Each sensor and each panel have a unique number written in their memory assigned by the manufacturer. During the pairing process, these devices "tell" each other their identity and store it in internal memory. From that moment on, the panel accepts only messages from the specific sensor with that ID – and ignores all other transmissions in the same band. The sensor stops blinking rapidly and enters the normal operating mode (the LED may blink slowly once every few seconds, or it may turn off completely – this depends on the model and power-saving settings).

If the panel does not register the sensor within 60–120 seconds, the countdown will end and you will return to the menu without saving the pairing. In this case, repeat the entire procedure – start again from entering the pairing menu on the panel.

Pairing multiple sensors: how to set up a multi-zone system

One of the main advantages of the EU-M-8n control panel is the ability to control multiple zones independently. Pairing is performed separately for each zone, with the same procedure – just always select a different zone in the panel menu. Important rule: the panel never stores two sensors in the same zone. If you pair a new sensor to an occupied zone, the original one will be automatically deleted.

Typical scenario from practice: an installer equips a three-story family house. One floor heating zone on each floor. The procedure looks like this:

Solution: have the sensor ready with batteries inserted before you enter the pairing menu on the panel.

Incorrect pressing of the pairing button

A short press (less than 3 seconds) on the sensor does not activate the pairing mode – it only resets the display or switches the display. The LED must start blinking rapidly. If after 3 seconds it blinks slowly or does not start blinking at all, repeat the press. For some older firmware versions, it is necessary to hold the button for up to 5 seconds.

Sensor still paired with an old panel

This is a classic case when replacing the control unit. The sensor remembers the ID of the old panel and the new panel appears as "foreign" to it. Solution: perform a factory reset on the sensor (procedure in the manual – usually a long press of the reset button). After the reset, the sensor is "virgin" and will accept pairing with any compatible panel.

Interference in the 868 MHz band

Although the 868 MHz band is less crowded than 2.4 GHz, other devices can be active in it – alarms, some alarm systems, wireless sockets, and even a neighbor's TECH system. When pairing too close to an interference source, the signal may not reliably reach the panel. Try pairing at a different time of day or temporarily turn off other wireless devices nearby.

Incompatibility of devices or firmware

Not every TECH sensor is compatible with every panel. Series EU-C-8r and EU-C-mini are designed for EU-M panels. If you try to pair a sensor from another series (e.g., older sensor ST-294), pairing may not proceed correctly despite the same frequency. Always verify compatibility in the technical documentation or with the seller.

A common and understandable misunderstanding. After replacing the batteries in the sensor, pairing is usually not lost – the ID is stored in the EEPROM memory of the sensor, not in the temporary RAM. After inserting new batteries, the sensor automatically logs in to the panel and communication resumes within a few seconds (or at most within the next transmission cycle, i.e., 30–120 seconds).

Special case: EU-R-8b as a replacement for a sensor

From the perspective of the EU-M-8n panel, the EU-R-8b appears as a "sensor with an extra function" – the panel receives not only the current temperature from it, but also the desired temperature set on the controller.
