The DAB 6GF 5.5 kW (code I0607500) is a 6" three-phase two-pole asynchronous submersible motor that drives the pump end of a submersible pump in a borehole or well. It is designed for direct-on-line starting at 3 × 400 V and suits 6" and 8" submersible pumps with NEMA flange and coupling – for example DAB SS6 pump ends; 10" pumps after checking the flange dimensions.

Construction

The motor jacket is stainless steel, and all metal parts in contact with water are stainless steel or cast iron. The stator is enclosed in a hermetically sealed stainless-steel housing, and the rotor runs in a fill of demineralised water and antifreeze lubricating liquid (water and polypropylene glycol), so the pumped water is not contaminated. High axial forces are carried by a robust Kingsbury-type thrust bearing – up to 16 000 N at this power. The motor has a detachable lead with a replaceable connector, IP68 protection and class F insulation.

Operating conditions

• water temperature 0 to +35 °C with a flow velocity past the motor of at least 0.3 m/s, otherwise a cooling sleeve is required
• vertical and horizontal installation (horizontal if the pump’s axial thrust never drops below 250 N)
• submersion depth up to 300 m, no more than 20 direct starts per hour
• operation on a frequency converter at 30–50/60 Hz possible with 10 % power derating
• the power of the connected pump must not exceed the motor power

Protection of the motor against overload and short circuit is provided by the user with a suitable electrical panel; the supply must also include a 30 mA residual current device. Installation and connection must be carried out by a qualified person. The motor requires no routine maintenance.

When is a cooling sleeve needed?
When water flows past the motor at less than 0.3 m/s, for example in a wide well or tank. Without sufficient flow the motor is not cooled adequately.

Can the motor be run on a frequency converter?
Yes, between 30 and 50/60 Hz. Power must be derated by 10 %, and the minimum water flow past the motor must be maintained even at the lowest frequency.
