Detailed information

Product detailed description

If you need to screw a pressed 35 mm stainless steel pipeline into a valve, appliance or fitting with a female thread, the IVAR.IVN464 35 mm – R 5/4" connector union is the right solution. At one end it has a press socket with an EPDM O-ring, at the other an R 5/4" male thread; the two parts are joined by a union nut with a flat gasket. The union is made of AISI 304 stainless steel (1.4301), its overall length is 85 mm and the Z dimension 59 mm.

Technical data at a glance

  • maximum operating pressure PN 16, vacuum down to -0.8 bar (absolute pressure 0.2 bar)
  • operating temperature -20 °C to +85 °C, maximum +120 °C
  • antifreeze mixture with a concentration of max. 50 %
  • pressing with M-profile press jaws

What it is and is not intended for

The union is suitable for closed heating and cooling systems, solar circuits, compressed air and vacuum, inert and technical gases, technical and process liquids, industrial applications and waste water or rainwater. It must not be used to carry drinking water – it bears a symbol of unsuitability for drinking water together with the AISI 304 logo, the size and the traceability code.

A secure joint

The LBP (Leak Before Press) O-ring with its kinked profile causes liquid to leak during the pressure test if the joint has not been pressed; an orange strip additionally indicates pressing. Seal the thread with a chloride-free material, as recommended by the system instructions. According to the instructions, direct contact between stainless steel and carbon steel can cause galvanic corrosion, so insert a connecting piece made of non-ferrous material between them. Leave the installation to a professional who follows the manufacturer's instructions; flush the system before starting the heating, and the manufacturer recommends treating the water with GEL.LONG LIFE 100.

The IVAR.IVN464 range includes sizes from 15 mm – R 1/2" to 54 mm – R 2".

Frequently asked questions

What is the IVAR.IVN464 35 mm – R 5/4" union screwed into?
The R 5/4" male thread screws into a valve, appliance or fitting with a female thread, and the press end is pressed onto a 35 mm stainless steel pipe. It is intended for closed heating and cooling systems, not for drinking water.

Which material should be used to seal the thread?
Use only chloride-free sealants, for example chloride-free Teflon tape or hemp with a chloride-free paste – this is what the instructions for the stainless steel system recommend.

Can I connect the union directly to a carbon steel fitting?
According to the instructions, direct contact between stainless steel and carbon steel can cause galvanic corrosion. A connecting piece made of non-ferrous material reduces the risk, and a non-ferrous metal spacer at least 50 mm long prevents it completely; stainless steel has no problem with bronze, copper and brass.

What is the union pressed with and how do I check the joint?
With M-profile press jaws. An unpressed joint is revealed during the pressure test by the LBP O-ring letting liquid leak, and the pressing status is also shown by the orange strip.

IVAR designs, develops and manufactures highly energy-efficient heating and plumbing systems. We have over 10,000 catalogue items - mass-produced products and unique items - in addition to customised systems and combinations of complex products. And it’s all “Made in Italy”.

Vision
To make life easier for our clients, our clients' customers and our employees, thanks to our ability to be constantly innovative.

Mission
To design and manufacture advanced hydronic solutions that reduce installation complexity and energy consumption.

“Made in Italy” adds value

IVAR has been producing heating and plumbing system components since 1985: valves for heating bodies, direct heat metering modules, heat cost allocators, pipes and fittings, substations for heating systems, distribution manifolds, radiant panel systems, and components for solar and geothermal systems. And it’s all “Made in Italy”.
Over 200 people are employed at our manufacturing facilities in Prevalle (in northern Italy’s Brescia province). The site has been designed to streamline our many production and operational stages.

The Italian headquarters also acts as a hub for the wider IVAR Group, set up with the goal of distributing products beyond Italy’s borders. The group now has 11 branches, in Australia, Belgium, China, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, the United States and Tunisia.

Know How
Research, development and numerous laboratory tests guarantee that our clients’ requests can be translated into new high-efficiency products.

The stages required for production take place internally, beginning with hot forming, which is carried out at our subsidiary Valmon Stampati. Our continuous implementation of projects under the Industry 4.0 initiative also allows us to take full advantage of new releases in technology and IT to improve our manufacturing efficiency.

As a company, IVAR is constantly evolving. Every day, we invest in strengthening our products, in improving our production processes and in attaining new patents and certifications.
