The THERMIA ATHENA 18HC TOTAL +60 (code IHPA18HCT60) is a premium Thermia ATHENA inverter air-to-water heat pump package: the ATHENA 18HC compact outdoor unit with proven R410A refrigerant and the TOTAL +60 indoor unit. The HC model can also cool the house – cooling operates at outdoor temperatures from +15 to +37 °C. The ATHENA range is designed for new and renovated buildings with heat losses up to 18 kW.

TOTAL +60 indoor unit

It contains the GENESIS control with colour touch screen, heating/DHW diverter valve, auxiliary heater, condenser and heating circuit pumps, a 180 l stainless steel DHW cylinder with TWS technology, a 60 l buffer tank connected at three points and a 12 l expansion vessel. The cylinder delivers 254 l of water at 40 °C; the unit weighs 147.5 kg. It controls one direct and one mixed heating circuit, and with the expansion card also pool heating. Modbus for building management, a built-in Smart Grid function for photovoltaics and Thermia Online remote monitoring are available.

Sizing and installation

Output is sized with Thermia HPC. The outdoor unit is placed 300–500 mm in front of a wall at least 250 mm thick that shields it from wind; it is connected to the indoor unit by Ø 28 mm pipe no longer than 15 m. The recommended system water volume is 120 l. A magnetic filter is supplied; the IHP086U567AH connection fitting is ordered separately. The indoor unit belongs in a frost-free room with a floor drain, on a floor with sufficient load-bearing capacity. Installation and commissioning are carried out by a qualified company.

What is the difference between the TOTAL, TOTAL +60 and TOTAL COMPACT versions?
TOTAL has a 300 l DHW cylinder. TOTAL +60 has a 180 l cylinder plus a 60 l buffer tank, a 12 l expansion vessel and a heating circuit pump. TOTAL COMPACT has a 180 l cylinder in a lower cabinet.

Can the ATHENA 18HC TOTAL +60 heat pump also cool?
Yes, the HC model has a built-in cooling function that operates at outdoor temperatures from +15 to +37 °C. It also controls the cooling/heating changeover valve, through which a cooling buffer tank can be connected.

How far can the outdoor unit be from the indoor unit?
The units can be connected by Ø 28 mm pipe up to 15 m long; the manufacturer does not permit a smaller size.

How loud is the outdoor unit?
The sound pressure is 48 dB(A) at 1 m, 32 dB(A) at 5 m and 28 dB(A) at 10 m. The manufacturer advises against placing it near bedroom windows or facing neighbours.
