The THERMIA CALIBRA E 16 (code IHP204010) is a compact inverter brine-to-water heat pump for houses and apartments. It draws heat from a borehole or horizontal ground collector and, with 4–16 kW, covers both space heating and hot water in new or renovated homes. The CALIBRA E range is designed for buildings with heat losses up to 24 kW.

System expansion

With the EM3 expansion card it controls a mixed heating circuit, an external auxiliary heat source (such as a gas boiler), an activated buffer tank for a wood stove insert or solar system, and pool heating. For passive cooling from the borehole, the manufacturer recommends a passive cooling hydraulic module.

Sizing and installation

Output is sized with the Thermia HPC software. The heat pump is placed in a frost-free room on a solid base, ideally a concrete floor, and not in a corner (it weighs 366 kg with a full cylinder). The brine circuit is filled with a water-ethanol mixture with a freezing point of -17 ± 2 °C, a magnetic dirt separator with filter is fitted in the heating return, and the system must contain at least 14 l of water per kW of minimum output. The IVAR.TER-PS connection fitting (IHP08645676) is ordered separately. Installation and commissioning are for a qualified company, electrical work for an electrician and work on the refrigerant circuit for a qualified refrigeration technician.
