Thermia MEGA S-E is an inverter brine-to-water heat pump from the IVAR.HP MEGA range designed for larger buildings and commercial use. The compressor with frequency inverter steplessly varies the output within 10–33 kW (B0/W35) according to the momentary heat demand, so the unit is designed to cover 100 % of the annual heat demand. The flow temperature reaches up to 65 °C, making it suitable for new builds and renovations alike.

S-E version

Compared with MEGA S, the S-E version has a built-in heating/DHW diverter valve and an electric backup heater with three steps of 5/10/15 kW. A Cu 35 mm hot water connection has been added; the other connections correspond to MEGA S.

Technology and efficiency

Quiet Danfoss scroll compressor with speed control, electronic expansion valve, stainless steel plate heat exchangers and energy class A circulation pumps; a special design with rubber compensators minimises vibration. R410A refrigerant, charge 3.9 kg. At B0/W35 it delivers 20.18 kW with a COP of 4.73; the seasonal SCOP is 5.72 (35 °C) and 4.33 (55 °C) according to EN 14825 for the cold climate, energy class A+++. Sound power level 41–56 dB(A).

Installation

The unit measuring 692 × 796 × 1652 mm (W × D × H, without connection stubs) and weighing 309 kg is placed level on a concrete floor at least 100 mm thick, away from room corners and walls adjoining noise-sensitive rooms. Connections: antifreeze 42 mm, heating system 35 mm, hot gas circuit 28 mm. A filter with a mesh of max. 0.7 mm belongs in the heating return and in the antifreeze supply, and connection with flexible hoses is recommended. Power supply 400 V 3N~, circuit breaker 32/40/50 A, maximum pressure of both circuits 6 bar.

Note: The HPC 2 calculation software is used for the design. Installation, electrical connection and commissioning must be carried out by an authorised specialist.

Frequently asked questions

Are the connection fittings included in the delivery?
No. The package contains the heat pump, documentation, a set of noise-damping panels and a sensor set (outdoor sensor and flow line sensor). The IVAR.TER-PS connection fittings are ordered separately – the code for this model is IHP08645680. With MEGA S-E, the Cu 35 mm hot water connection must also be connected separately.

Can MEGA also be used with a water-to-water source?
Yes, but the water-to-water version requires a custom-designed intermediate heat exchanger and a flow sensor. With an additional EM3 card, the submersible source pump can be controlled by a 0–10 V signal according to the temperature difference across the intermediate exchanger.

Which antifreeze is used in the primary circuit?
The manufacturer specifies an ethanol-water solution with a freezing point of −17 °C (±2 °C). Check local regulations before use; the maximum working pressure of the antifreeze circuit is 6 bar.
