Integrated LED strips around the mirror
The most common type. The LED strip runs around the entire perimeter or at least three sides of the mirror (top and sides). It provides even, soft light without sharp points. Disadvantage: in cheaper models, you may see the LED strip itself through the mirror with all the individual LED points, which looks cheap. Higher quality cabinets use frosted glass or a diffuser that spreads the light into a smooth surface.
Mirror backlight
The LED strip is placed behind the mirror and shines toward the wall. The mirror thus "glows" at the edges, the effect is very aesthetic and modern. The advantage is minimal glare – you only see the light as a halo around the mirror. Disadvantage: for practical purposes (makeup, shaving) this type is less effective, as the intensity of the light falling on the face is lower. Backlight is therefore usually combined with front lighting.
Top lighting
An LED panel or strip is placed only in the top part of the cabinet. A compromise between affordability and functionality. It is sufficient for simple daily use, but not enough for more demanding cosmetic work – shadows under the cheekbones and nose remain.
Side lighting

This is where most people make a mistake and then wonder why their makeup looks completely different outside compared to in front of the mirror at home. Color temperature is expressed in Kelvins (K) and affects how we perceive the colors of objects illuminated by a given light source.
Warm white light (2 700 – 3 000 K)
Yellowish, warm, relaxing. Perfect for the bedroom, living room or bathroom where you want a pleasant atmosphere in the evening. Disadvantage when working in front of a mirror: it warms up skin tones, hides redness, but also distorts the color tone of nail polish, eyeshadows and lipstick. You apply makeup that looks perfect – and when you go outside, it looks completely different.
Neutral white light (3 500 – 4 000 K)
A good compromise. The light is white without a distinct warm or cold tint. For a bathroom where you primarily shave or do basic makeup, this is a reasonable choice. Most mirror cabinets with fixed settings have exactly this spectrum.
Cool white / daylight (5 000 – 6 500 K)
Bluish, bright, similar to daylight. The most accurate representation of skin colors. Color Rendering Index (CRI) – a parameter most people ignore
CRI (Color Rendering Index) or Ra is a number from 0 to 100 that indicates how accurate the colors of illuminated objects are in comparison to natural daylight (CRI 100). The higher the value, the better. For bathroom lighting in front of a mirror, there is a simple rule:
- CRI below 80: Unacceptable for any cosmetic work. Colors are distorted, skin can appear grayish or sickly.
- CRI 80–89: Standard sufficient for a regular bathroom, shaving, basic care.
- CRI 90–95: Excellent. Skin tones, nail polish, eye shadows will match reality. I recommend this as a minimum for mirror cabinets where you do makeup.

A mirror cabinet with lighting is usually mounted above the sink, so outside the direct water zones. Despite that, steam and condensation occur in the bathroom. Practical recommendation: choose cabinets with at least IP44. If the bathroom is small or the cabinet is close to the shower area, consider IP54 or IP65. Clock and thermometer
A LED display integrated into the mirror or cabinet shows the time or temperature. Practical in the morning when you want to orient yourself in time without a phone. Not all models are accurate – cheaper ones tend to lag.
USB charging
