Detailed information

Product detailed description

Expansion vessel 2 l for hydraulic separation module in uniTOWER /7 – supplementary part for pressure balancing in the circuit after the hydraulic separator.

The Vaillant uniTOWER system (in the plus and Split plus versions) is a compact hydraulic module in the shape of a tower with a footprint comparable to a standard refrigerator, which in one housing combines a hot water tank with a volume of 190 l, a complete heating hydraulic system, a backup electric heater and a control unit. The module is connected in the aroTHERM / aroTHERM plus / aroTHERM Split system to the external (or internal, in the Split version) unit of the air-to-water heat pump and is responsible for the distribution of heat to the heating circuit and the preparation of hot water. Precisely because most of the components are integrated directly in the tower body, Vaillant offers a range of supplementary, connecting and service parts for the module, which allow the hydraulic system to be adapted to a specific installation – ceiling height, side of connection, need for hot water circulation or additional hydraulic separation of circuits.

Heat pump aroTHERM and the position of the part in the system

Heat pumps of the aroTHERM / aroTHERM plus / aroTHERM Split series extract heat from the air even at low outdoor temperatures and transfer it to the heating circuit and the hot water tank via the uniTOWER module. Since compared to a gas boiler, lower temperatures of the heating water are used and more emphasis is placed on the correct hydraulic balancing of the entire circuit, the quality and compatibility of each individual hydraulic part – including expansion vessels, circulation and connecting sets – is directly linked to the overall efficiency and quiet operation of the system. The use of non-original or incorrectly dimensioned parts can negatively affect both the hydraulic balance and the declared performance coefficient (COP) of the system.

Composition of the delivery and packaging

The part is delivered in the original Vaillant packaging, which protects the connecting threads and sealing surfaces from damage during transport. The delivery always includes the necessary installation documentation (installation instructions) in a language supported by the manufacturer, based on which the service technician will verify the correct sequence of installation steps, tightening torques of connections and the method of checking tightness after connection.

Lifespan, service and preventive maintenance

The hydraulic components of the uniTOWER module are designed for long-term maintenance-free operation, nevertheless we recommend that during the regular annual service inspection of the heat pump, this part is also checked – especially the tightness of the connections, possible signs of corrosion or medium leakage and the functionality of the associated valves. Early preventive inspection extends the life of the entire system and reduces the risk of unplanned heating or hot water preparation downtime, especially during the winter period.

What the tank is used for

Just like in the TÚV circuit (where an 8 l expansion vessel is used, code 0020170500), changes in the temperature of the medium also lead to changes in the volume of water in the heating circuit. This small 2-litre expansion vessel is intended directly for the secondary circuit after the hydraulic separation module (code 0010039991) in the uniTOWER /7 module and absorbs volume changes in water in this part of the system, thus maintaining a stable pressure and protecting the circulation pumps and piping from pressure fluctuations.

Technical parameters

  • Nominal tank volume: 2 litres
  • Application: secondary (distribution) heating circuit after the hydraulic separation module uniTOWER /7
  • Membrane design suitable for heating medium
  • Mountable in the module housing, directly adjacent to the separation module

Why this tank is a separate part

Since the hydraulic separation module divides the system into two separate circuits with their own volume of water, each of them needs its own pressure balancing – the primary side (at the level of the heat pump) has its own integrated expansion vessel in the heat pump product, while the secondary (distribution) side after the separator requires this separate, smaller 2-litre tank corresponding to the volume of water in this part of the system.

Installation and assembly

The part is intended for installation in the housing of the uniTOWER module and its installation may be carried out only by a trained service technician with Vaillant authorization. An incorrectly installed or incorrectly assembled hydraulic circuit can cause leaks, reduced system efficiency or void the warranty on the entire device. Before ordering, we recommend having the project documentation available or at least a photograph of the actual installation condition and the exact type of uniTOWER module marked (including the performance range and plus/Split plus version), because individual connecting kits differ from each other in side design and type of sealing.

Frequently asked questions

Is this tank a mandatory part of the installation of the hydraulic separation module?
The need and dimensioning of the expansion tank on the secondary side is assessed by the designer according to the total volume of water in the distribution circuit; if the volume of water is larger (more zones, longer pipelines), a tank with a larger volume may be required.

Can this tank be used outside the uniTOWER /7 module?
The tank is designed as a supplementary part specifically for the hydraulic separation module uniTOWER /7; for other systems we recommend checking compatibility with a technician.

How often should the pre-pressure of this tank be checked?
We recommend checking it during each regular annual service inspection of the heating system.

Modern Heating Systems

Modern heating systems are designed to provide efficient and comfortable heating in residential and commercial buildings. These systems typically include a boiler, heat distribution system, and control units. The boiler is responsible for heating the water, which is then distributed through radiators or underfloor heating systems. Control units allow users to regulate the temperature in different zones of the building.

There are several types of heating systems available, including gas, oil, electric, and heat pump systems. Each type has its advantages and disadvantages, and the choice depends on factors such as fuel availability, initial cost, operating cost, and environmental impact.

Gas heating systems are popular due to their efficiency and relatively low operating costs. They require a gas supply and a flue for venting combustion gases. Oil heating systems are similar to gas systems but use oil as the fuel source. Electric heating systems are easy to install and maintain but can be more expensive to operate, especially in colder climates.

Heat pump systems are becoming increasingly popular due to their high efficiency and environmental benefits. They work by transferring heat from the outside air or ground into the building. In the summer, they can also provide cooling by reversing the process.

Modern Heating System Boiler Radiators

When selecting a heating system, it is important to consider the size of the building, insulation levels, and local climate conditions. A professional heating engineer can help assess these factors and recommend the most suitable system. Regular maintenance is also essential to ensure the system operates efficiently and safely.
