What it is used for

SMARTY 4X PE (code IVU400PE) is a central ventilation unit with heat recovery for apartments, family and passive houses. It extracts stale air and excess moisture and replaces it with fresh outside air, which is preheated in the heat exchanger by the heat of the exhaust air – the house is ventilated without opening windows and with minimal heat loss.

The unit is mounted under the ceiling and thanks to its height of only 324 mm offers many placement options. The SMARTY 4X PE version has an enthalpic heat exchanger, which transfers not only heat but also part of the moisture to the incoming air; the version with a standard heat exchanger has the code IVU400P.

Construction and equipment

• enthalpic counterflow heat exchanger with thermal efficiency of 70.3 % (data according to EU Regulation 1254/2014), energy efficiency class A for average climate
• EC fans with variable speed control – power consumption at maximum flow 352 W, reference specific power index SPI 0.34 W/(m³/h), sound power level 52 dB(A)
• summer bypass with servomotor for 100 % bypass of the heat exchanger and night cooling
• Coarse 65 % (G4) filters on the intake and exhaust, size 225 × 195 × 25 mm; for outside air it is possible to use ePM1 70 % (F7) filter
• enclosure made of galvanized steel with powder coating in white color RAL 9016 (corrosion resistance C3), thermal and acoustic insulation from EPP of thickness 30 mm, tightness class A1

Control and accessories

The integrated control board miniMCB measures the temperature of the outside, supplied and extracted air and controls the fans, bypass and external components (preheater, reheater, air regulators). It offers three manual modes, intensive ventilation (boost), time program, night cooling, mode for fireplaces and intelligent anti-frost protection; it is possible to connect CO2 sensor (IVAR.CO2) or humidity sensor.

The controller is not part of the unit – wall controller (IVAR.TCP, IVAR.ST-SA, IVAR.STOUCH) or interface IVAR.MB-GATEWAY can be ordered separately, which will allow control from PC and via application IVAR.SMARTYAIR on smartphone or tablet. For preheating outside air, electric preheater IVAR.EKA (1.2 kW) is available in the range, for reheating supplied air independent reheater IVAR.EKA NI (1.2 kW) with control GRGT034.

Installation

The dimensions of the unit (length × width × height) are 1228 × 690 × 324 mm, weight 53 kg. It is powered from a single-phase network 230 V / 50 Hz, total power / consumption is 0.4 kW / 2.95 A. The unit operates inside the building at ambient temperature 5 to 40 °C and ambient humidity up to 70 %; without anti-frost protection it can process outside air from -8 °C. Anti-frost protection works with flow imbalance and can create negative pressure in the house – for devices that take air from the room (fireplace, boiler), the manufacturer recommends to turn it off and use preheater. It is not installed into living rooms without additional noise insulation and is not intended for pools or saunas. Installation, electrical connection and maintenance must be performed only by a qualified technician and the unit must be grounded.

What is included in the delivery and what needs to be ordered separately?
The unit is delivered with mounting accessories – four anti-vibration pads, cover plugs, key and output pipe G3/8. Controller (IVAR.TCP, IVAR.ST-SA, IVAR.STOUCH or interface IVAR.MB-GATEWAY) and air ducting are ordered separately.

Where should the unit not be installed?
Only in living rooms with additional noise insulation and never in pools, saunas or similar spaces. The unit is intended for interior use with ambient temperature 5 to 40 °C and humidity up to 70 %.

How often are the filters changed?
The manufacturer recommends changing every 3 to 4 months or sooner according to the warning on the controller. Filters Coarse 65 % (G4) with size 225 × 195 × 25 mm are used, for outside air also ePM1 70 % (F7); the unit must not be operated without filters.

Does the unit need preheating of outside air?
Without anti-frost protection, SMARTY 4X PE operates at outside air from -8 °C. For colder periods, electric preheater IVAR.EKA (1.2 kW) is added to it.
