When to use it
The heat transfer fluid in a solar system is exposed to high temperatures for long periods. Over time it breaks down, turns dark, thickens and forms hard deposits in the pipework that narrow the pipe bore and make the circuit acidic. Mayline SOLAR from the Italian manufacturer Maychem loosens this dirt and helps restore proper operation of the system. It suits both solar and heating systems in which a glycol mixture circulates.

Cleaning in brief
First the old heat transfer fluid is drained from the system. The water-based solution is then circulated with an external flushing pump for 60 to 120 minutes; for heavy fouling, with the solution replaced, up to 240 minutes in total. The system temperature must not exceed 65 °C, so cleaning is done in the morning or with the collectors covered. Finally the solution is drained, the system is neutralised with Mayline Neutro and thoroughly flushed with mains water. Effectiveness can be checked by measuring conductivity: the solution should read about 1200 µS/cm above plain water.
Safety: the product causes serious eye damage (H318); wear gloves and safety goggles and protect it from frost. The same product is also made in a 5 l pack (IVA5/MYSOL).

Frequently asked questions
How is the product dosed?
It is diluted with water to a concentration of 10 to 20 %, i.e. 10–20 litres of product per 100 litres of water. The manufacturer does not allow a higher or lower concentration.
Can the cleaning solution remain in the system?
No. After 60–120 minutes of circulation (up to 240 minutes for heavy fouling), the solution is drained, the system neutralised with Mayline Neutro and thoroughly flushed with mains water.
What should I watch out for when handling the product?
The product causes serious eye damage, so work with gloves and safety goggles. Keep it out of reach of children and protect it from frost.
