The THERMIA CALIBRA E COOL 12 (code IHP206944) is a compact inverter brine-to-water heat pump that, besides heating and hot water, can also cool the house in summer. It draws heat from a borehole or horizontal ground collector and operates in the 3–12 kW range. The CALIBRA E range is designed for new and renovated buildings with heat losses up to 24 kW.

System expansion

On the COOL model, cooling is built into the heat pump itself, so no separate passive cooling module is needed; the cooling temperature is set in a dedicated Cooling menu. An activated buffer tank and active cooling are not available on this model. The EM3 expansion card adds a mixed circuit, an external auxiliary heat source and pool heating. All pipes used for cooling must be insulated with a vapour-tight material.

Sizing and installation

Output is sized with the Thermia HPC software. The heat pump is placed in a frost-free room on a solid base, ideally a concrete floor, and not in a corner (it weighs 359 kg with a full cylinder). The brine circuit is filled with a water-ethanol mixture with a freezing point of -17 ± 2 °C, a magnetic dirt separator with filter is fitted in the heating return, and the system must contain at least 14 l of water per kW of minimum output. The IVAR.TER-PS connection fitting (IHP08645676) is ordered separately. Installation and commissioning are for a qualified company, electrical work for an electrician and work on the refrigerant circuit for a qualified refrigeration technician.
