Vaillant – Elevated 40 cm mounting base for snow-rich areas
The original mounting base (sockelerhöhung) from Vaillant, which raises the outdoor unit of the aroTHERM heat pump by 40 cm above ground level. This solution is primarily intended for locations with high snow cover, where installation at standard height could result in the intake grid of the evaporator being buried in snow, thus limiting or completely stopping air flow through the unit.
Why elevation is important
Outdoor heat pump units draw in a large volume of air through the front or side grid of the evaporator. If snow drifts or accumulates up to the level of the grid, it results in a significant reduction in performance, increased electricity consumption for defrosting, and in extreme cases, the unit may shut down due to the safety cut-off for insufficient air flow. Elevation by 40 cm significantly reduces this risk in areas with regular to higher snowfall and also simplifies winter maintenance (clearing snow) around the unit.

Installation
The base is anchored to a solid, level, and drained base (ideally a concrete slab or a compacted gravel base with drainage). Due to the weight of the frame and the unit itself (together it can exceed 150–200 kg), it is necessary to verify the load-bearing capacity of the base before installation. The unit itself is mounted and fastened on the frame exclusively by a qualified service company according to the Vaillant installation instructions, including the connection of pipe runs with sufficient slack/flexibility taking into account the elevated position of the unit.
Common questions
Is 40 cm elevation sufficient for mountainous areas with extreme snowfall? For regular and increased snowfall areas, this height is usually sufficient in most cases; for extreme locations, we recommend consulting with the installation company about additional measures (e.g., a snow guard roof, additional snow removal).
Can the base be used without the need to address snow, just to elevate the unit above the ground? Yes, the solution is suitable in general for areas with a risk of wetting or for aesthetic/service reasons.
Is a separate concrete foundation required? A solid and drained base is recommended; in unstable terrain, a concrete foundation matching the weight of the assembly is suitable.
Operational and service recommendations
Before the start of the winter season, we recommend checking the free space under the unit (to prevent the accumulation of leaves, branches, or other dirt that could restrict air flow) and the condition of the drainage under the base. In locations with extremely high snowfall, we recommend checking during winter whether snow accumulates up to the level of the evaporator grid despite the elevated position of the unit.
Related accessories
We recommend combining the base with a mounting kit for bottom installation (0010027971), or with an extension part (0010027972), since the elevated position of the unit also changes the vertical connection of the pipe route with the ground. A color-matched version of this base is available for dark (anthracite) unit designs (8000035192).
Warranty and professional installation
The product is covered by a warranty period of 24 months. Due to the weight of the complete assembly (frame + unit, together approximately 150–200 kg), we strongly recommend having the load-bearing capacity of the base assessed and the installation entrusted to a certified service company.

Due to its size and weight, the product is classified as an atypical shipment transported by courier pallet transport, with advance payment by bank transfer.
Snow protection – why it matters in Central European conditions
In the climatic conditions of Slovakia, especially in foothill and mountainous areas, sufficient clearance between the bottom edge of the outdoor unit and the ground is among the key factors for reliable year-round operation of the heat pump. A standard installation height (unit on low bases, approx. 10–15 cm above ground level) can be covered with snow up to the level of the evaporator intake grid during heavy snowfall over several days. The consequences are:
- Significant reduction in heating performance at a time when the need for heat is highest (frosty days with snow cover)
- Increased electricity consumption for compensatory defrosting cycles
- In extreme cases, shutdown of the unit by the safety cut-off for insufficient air flow, requiring manual snow removal around the unit
The elevated mounting base with a 40 cm lift systematically solves this problem already during installation, without the need for additional construction modifications or regular intensive snow removal. The investment in an elevated base usually pays off within the first or second heating season in areas with regular winter snow cover due to lower energy consumption for defrosting and lower risk of failure due to unit blockage.
Installation procedure step by step
- Prepare a solid, level, and drained base (concrete slab or compacted gravel base) dimensioned for the weight of the frame and the unit.
- Mount and fasten the frame of the elevated base, check its horizontal level in all directions.
- Mount the outdoor unit on the frame and fasten it according to the manufacturer's installation instructions.
- Adjust the mounting kit route (possibly with an extension part) to the elevated position of the unit.
- Connect the pipe runs, electrical installation, and condensate drain.
- Verify free air circulation under the unit and put the unit into operation.
