Vaillant flexoCOMPACT exclusive VWF 58/4 is a compact ground/water (brine/water) heat pump with an integrated stainless steel hot water storage tank of approx. 185 liters in one cabinet. The entire unit – compressor, heat exchanger, hydraulics and hot water tank – is enclosed in a single tall but space-saving cabinet with dimensions of 1868 × 595 × 720 mm (height × width × depth), which occupies only approx. 0.35 m² in the technical room. This is therefore an "all-in-one" solution, suitable especially where there is little space for a separate hot water storage heater and heat pump next to each other.
Like the entire flexoTHERM/flexoCOMPACT exclusive range, it is not a split system with an outdoor unit – the unit is fully installed inside the house and only the non-freezing brine circuit leads outside to the ground collector or geothermal borehole (or to the well in the water/water version). The VWF 58/4 model is the smallest of the trio flexoCOMPACT exclusive (58/4, 88/4, 118/4) and is intended for smaller and medium-sized family homes or well-insulated new builds.

Why the compact "2 in 1" solution
Combining the heat pump and the hot water tank into one cabinet saves space in the boiler room, shortens the piping between the pump and the tank (lower heat losses, shorter installation) and also simplifies the visual impression of the technical room – instead of two separate devices, there is one slim "cabinet" in the room. The stainless steel tank with a volume of approx. 185 l will cover the normal hot water consumption of a four-person household with one to two bathrooms.
Controller sensoCOMFORT 720 and internet gateway VR 940f
The equithermal controller sensoCOMFORT (series VRC 720) automatically adjusts the performance and temperature of the heating water to the outside temperature, controls the heating and hot water preparation time programs and allows the connection of additional components via the eBUS bus. Thanks to the additional internet gateway VR 940f, the system connects to the home WiFi and is accessible via the free myVAILLANT app – from anywhere you can change the temperature, time programs, switch the mode to vacation/comfort and in case of a fault you will receive a notification directly to your phone, which also simplifies any remote service intervention.
Summer cooling
The flexoCOMPACT exclusive model has active cooling available by default – in summer it can reverse the cooling cycle and slightly cool the interior via underfloor heating or properly dimensioned fancoils. It is not a full-fledged air conditioning, but a pleasant temperature reduction by several degrees with minimal energy consumption.
Installation and heat source
For a performance of 5.28 kW, a surface ground collector with a suitable land area or a shorter geothermal borehole (approximately 60 – 90 m, precisely according to the geological assessment and project) is usually sufficient. Due to the low noise (no external fan), it is also suitable for denser urban areas, where an external unit of an air source heat pump could be limited by noise regulations against neighbors. The final commissioning is carried out exclusively by an authorized Vaillant service technician, which is also a condition of the warranty.

For whom is VWF 58/4 suitable
This is an ideal choice for smaller new builds with low heat loss (up to approx. 5 – 6 kW), where a large capacity is not needed, but the customer appreciates the space saving in the technical room and simpler installation compared to the combination of a separate pump and a standing tank. For higher heat loss of the house, we recommend considering a more powerful model of the range (VWF 88/4 or 118/4).

Since flexoCOMPACT exclusive has no external fan or external unit, the noise of the device is comparable to a quiet refrigerator and practically no noise from the garden or façade reaches the neighbors. The cabinet is acoustically insulated (Sound Safe technology), so the operation is also inconspicuous even directly in the technical room – which you will appreciate especially if the boiler room is near living rooms or bedrooms.
Comparison with air source heat pump
Compared to air/water heat pumps, the ground source has the advantage that the temperature at a depth of several meters below the surface is practically constant throughout the year (approx. 8 – 12 °C). An air source heat pump must work with a decreasing air temperature and thus also with decreasing performance and efficiency (COP) on cold days when the need for heat is highest. The ground source heat pump flexoCOMPACT exclusive, on the other hand, maintains a stable performance even in the coldest period of the year, which is reflected in lower operating costs throughout the entire heating season (higher seasonal factor SCOP).
Grants and return on investment
Ground/water heat pumps belong to the devices for which it is possible to obtain a state grant within programs for the support of renewable energy sources (e.g. Green Home) in some periods – the current amount and conditions are recommended to be verified before purchase, as they change over time. Due to the high and stable efficiency of ground pumps, the return on investment compared to a gas boiler or electric heating is usually faster precisely because of the lower operating costs throughout the year.
Requirements for the technical room
The device requires a dry, frost-resistant room with a drain (possibility to drain any condensate) and sufficient space for service access from the side and front. Despite the integrated hot water tank, the footprint is only approx. 0.35 m² due to the height of the cabinet, which makes the VWF 58/4 model one of the most space-saving solutions on the market for smaller households.
