Vaillant flexoTHERM exclusive VWF 57/4 is the smallest model in the flexoTHERM exclusive range – a ground/water (brine/water) heat pump fully installed indoors in a single white cabinet with dimensions 1183 × 595 × 600 mm (height × width × depth). Only a pipe with non-freezing brine leads out of the house to a ground collector or geothermal borehole, or to a well in the water/water version. This particular configuration also includes the Vaillant VWZ NC 11 passive cooling module, which in summer will transform the same heating system (underfloor heating or fancoils) into a gentle and highly energy-efficient cooling system.

Passive cooling module VWZ NC 11 – how it works
Passive cooling (also known as "natural cooling") does not use a compressor or a reversed refrigeration cycle as in classic air conditioning – it only uses cold brine flowing from a geothermal borehole or collector, which has a stable temperature of around 10 – 15 °C even in summer. The VWZ NC 11 module contains a plate heat exchanger, an electrically controlled three-way valve with a servomotor, and dew point regulation, which delivers the cold brine directly into the heating circuit (underfloor heating or fancoils) while at the same time preventing condensation of moisture on the pipes or floor. This makes the operation exceptionally quiet and energy-efficient – only electricity is consumed for the circulation pump and control electronics, no compressor is switched on. The temperature setting range is approximately 7 to 24 °C, and the cooling capacity of the module ranges from about 5 to 11 kW depending on conditions and the sizing of the heating/cooling system. The module is suitable for glycol-based media, not for ethanol-based circuits.
The result is not a full-fledged air conditioning system with a significant temperature drop, but a pleasant reduction in indoor temperature by a few degrees compared to the outside temperature on hot summer days – ideal for a bedroom or living room, where a gentle and quiet cooling without the draft from an air conditioning unit is sufficient.

The sensoCOMFORT thermostatic controller (VRC 720 series) controls both the heating and cooling modes, automatically switching between heating in winter and passive cooling in summer according to the set programs and indoor/outdoor temperatures. The internet gateway VR 940f connects the system to the home WiFi network and makes it accessible via the free myVAILLANT app – from your phone you can monitor and adjust temperatures, heating and cooling schedules, switch operating modes, and in the event of a fault you will receive a direct notification on your mobile.
Preparation of hot domestic water
The VWF 57/4 model is combined with a separate standing hot water storage heater from Vaillant (e.g. uniSTOR or actoSTOR), whose volume is selected according to the number of residents and bathrooms in the household – for a smaller family home, a storage tank with a volume of 150 – 200 liters is usually sufficient.
Installation and ground heat source
For a capacity of 5.28 kW, a shorter geothermal borehole (approximately 60 – 90 m according to the geological assessment) or a horizontal ground collector with sufficient land area is usually sufficient.
