Is a smoke detector mandatory?
Yes, for new buildings and renovations of houses in Slovakia, it is required by the fire prevention decree. Even where it is not mandatory, it is the cheapest insurance in the house.
How often should a detector be replaced?
The smoke detector sensor has a lifespan of approximately 10 years, and the CO detector 5 to 7 years depending on the model. The expiration date is engraved on the body; after that, the sensor no longer reliably measures.
Where should a flood detector be placed?
On the floor in the lowest spot near the washing machine, dishwasher, water heater, or underfloor heating manifold. The probe must lie directly on the floor.
